Hello Everyone;

My name is Alex and I am one of the Match Directors for the Minuteman Precision Rifle League (MMPRL).

We are a group of ranges around NE and a range in NY that hold regular PRS style matches.
For those that are unfamiliar with PRS style matches, they involve a shooting steel targets at varying distance from interesting positions Ex: off of construction tires, simulated roof tops etc. All of this is done under time. It's a fast paced and growing sport and we'd like for you guys to come by and check it out.

We give all of the league fees back to the shooters in the form of a shooters pack as well as prize table for the finale.
None of the match director take a salary from the league this is all volunteer.

The league format is as follows;
1) Compete in minimum of one match at 3 different ranges for score
*Note: If you shoot at the same range more than once you keep the highest score you receive
2) You score will be tracked all year and if you meet requirement #1 you are eligible to compete in the finale (Max participants TBD)

League Fee: $85.00

League Fee w/ Valid PRS Regional Membership: $45.00

Always wanted to shot out to those distances. Though with access to only a 300 yard range my scope "dope" is limited. Figure it would be real hard to compete or even be accurate without that information and no way to get that set up. If I'm wrong please let me know.

All you need to do is get a fairly accurate velocity of the bullet you’re using and plug it into ballistic solving software. There are several good ballistic apps available for next to nothing. Just zero your scope for 100 yards and let the app calculate your solution. It’s not as accurate as actually engaging targets at range, but it will get you very, very close.

I attended my first match with just a 100 yard zero, velocity, and ballistic app on my iPhone. I didn’t finish last.

I intend to show up expecting to learn, not really be competitive. I just need to restock my R700, and get some chrono data.

I would also add that the group of shooters that make up the MMPRL are all very helpful and want to see this sport grow. If you’re worried about having all the right equipment or “not being ready yet”, don’t. Grab your rifle and some ammo and go shoot. New shooters are always squadded with experienced shooters to help them along and to get them making impacts.

My only apprehension has been taking up a spot that someone who is competitive and not being at least minimally equipped.

The only real requirements are a rifle and ammo capable of 1MOA accuracy and a scope that can be adjusted for range (Tactical turrets) with a reticle that can be used for holdovers.

You Guys dont shoot at Pemi anymore? Not enough distance? I was going to try and come watch a match before jumping in.

Everyone at the match was a new shooter at one time or another. The matches do fill up, but no one would ever get upset because a new shooter signed up before they did.

Pemi had some scheduling conflicts and also did not have anyone willing to continue running the matches. It was a great place to shoot and to introduce new shooters to the sport.

That's my club, I love it there. I am super interested in Alderbrook though.

Interesting. Didn't realize it was would be that "easy"...... I have a Savage Stealth in 6.5 Creedmoor that I've been wanting to see how she performs at distances. I shoot Hornady 147gr ELD Match rounds through her so went to Hornady's web site to see if they have an app. There is an app, but I also found a calculator and after plugging in the numbers it provided me with the come ups for that round.

I'll have to go dig through my notes to see if the Come Ups I have on my Vortex Viper is the same or at least similar.

I use the app strelok pro. It has a reticle database and will show your hold on your reticle. The free version works as a basic calculator, but is limited in its features.

Those numbers from Hornady should be pretty solid. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them unless you have the ability to chrono and cross check against another app.

Strelok is a decent app. I’d upgrade to the pay version though.

Most tactical reticles are pretty straightforward when it comes to holdovers. Most matches will only have one or two stages requiring holdovers instead of dialing the elevation change on your scope. That’s not to say there won’t be stages where a holdover is wiser than dialing.

Scopes, reticles, ballistic calculators and devices can be a VERY deep rabbit hole to go down. Don’t get too wrapped up and intimidated with it.

A scope like a Vortex Viper PST with ebr1, ebr2, or ebr7 type reticle and a reliable ballistic app will absolutely get the job done without breaking the bank.

Following this thread.

Ask questions if you have them. That’s the only way they get answered.

I’ve been shooting precision rifle in New England for three seasons now. The guys that started the MMPRL last season have put in a TON of work and have really hit it out of the park. We all want to see the sport grow in New England, and I bet there are lots of unanswered questions out there.

Interesting. Me and my RPR in 6mm creed are not good enough to show up to one of these yet. Working on getting something setup for rimfire, but would love to be in a place where I’m competent enough to show up to one of these

Dave M is more qualified than me to answer you on this, but I think you are wrong: Your rifle is more than capable and you need to just go to one of the matches, shoot, learn, ask questions, and have fun. Take what you learned and apply it at the the next match, and so on.
This advice can be applied to any type of shooting match. Don't worry about being good enough: just go.

I struggle shooting through a scope... it was one thing shooting high power (not well, but not laughable either) at known distances at a fuzzy black dot. Seeing a target moving all over the place through an optic is nerve wracking!

What do you guys recommend for scope magnification? I have a R700 in a nice Boyd stock in .300WM that I've wanted to try long range with. Pretty good out to 200 so far.

This is a goal. I got parts and an optic to put together something far too good for me but I’m too lazy to travel to the places that have PRS or NRL matches.

Is Granby going to be taken off the list?
