minorities and LTCs

When I fill out a 4473, I check all the ethnicity boxes (legitimately). I got an LTC-A with the normal restrictions due to my town, nobody in the department cared about my ethnic background. I did make the woman filling out the form put "Other" in the race box, which she initially railed against saying it "wasn't an option" until she got out the card with the abbreviations on it and sure enough, there was "O" for other just like I had suggested after she said that M stood for mexican and I couldn't use it for mixed.

The laws were originally written to discourage immigrants and minorities (in MA mostly the Irish and blacks). But I cannot recall any recent instance where a PD has discriminated or restricted on the basis of ethnicity. Nowadays it seems the licensing discrimination is purely based on local politics and applied equally to any applicant which isn't in the VIP categories.

My interviewing officers and the police instructors administering the Moon Island exam were minorities and quite cheerful throughout the entire process.

Well, legally you can't deny on ethnicity, but if the issuing officer has a hair up his butt for someone, how do you prove it was based on race. You cant, but my buddies say "you get a feeling". I get that same feeling sometimes for being old and/or over weight. Some people emit negative vibes. Weak in court though.

When I applied for my LTC I fully expected to be hassled. I ran through a whole bunch of imaginary conversations , got intimidated and waited like 6 more years to get around to it. I believe it had something to do with all the propaganda one is exposed to living in this State.

When I finally did it , I was met with complete polite professionalism and issued a non restricted.

My race had nothing to do with anything , and I suspect issuing officers do not care either.

I think GOAL should start a campaign...."Gun Licensing for Ethnic Equality".

I was talking with my nephew and his friend who both want licenses. They are both in their early 20's so I'm like welcome aboard. But the first question I asked is if they have ever been arrested or convicted of a crime. Nephew said no but the kid said yes. He was arrested but found not guilty. So I told him he has to list that on the application and that he might have trouble because of it.

But anyway, I ask anyone who asks me about getting a license if they have any arrests and convictions and if the answer is no I tell them to get the course straight away and get that application in.

Then I tell them to vote against anti gun pols. They need to support the right to keep and bear arms.

It depends more on the town than skin color. I got my LTC-A unrestricted in about a month, and I'm black.
I'd like to know your secret. I am not keen on getting the $100 Chelsea shakedown to wait six months for a useless restricted LTC-A or to get rejected for no reason.

I think it comes down to the media-driven bias that has long portrayed legal gun ownership as the domain of old Christian white guys. The reality is that, for example, for a century after the civil war African Americans loved their guns because that was their last line of defense against the still-racist South.

Personally, I've long been puzzled by the gun owner demographics. It would seem to me that any group that has been or is being persecuted would be more likely to own firearms - blacks, Hispanics, Jews, women, LGBTs (can I express that in plural form like that?), etc.

I remember reading an interview with Chris Cheng, the Asian gay dude that won Top Shot, where he said that for a while he was puzzled that they didn't even hint at his sexuality during the show. When he finally asked the staff about it, they shrugged and basically said "it has nothing to do with how well you shoot, so who cares?" Gun owners are seriously the friendliest people I've ever come across (I must not have met a lot of NES-ers [wink]) so I have no doubt that your friends/coworkers would be more than welcome at any range/club.

Just my 2c
Yep.

A black buddy of mine got me into the whole shooting thing back in 1993!! He was unrestricted in Somerville.
You never forget the first time... and that was long ago!!

Got mine in taunton and there definitely was the whole anxiety of what questions they will ask, looking presentable etc, but was smooth process. The gentleman seem to have cool calm demeanor.

Did you previously hold an unrestricted LTC-A? Seems like they give the non-restricted LTCs to people with a history of unrestricted resident LTCs or "special people". Hence why if I leave the state I probably won't even bother applying for a non-resident LTC.

I'm black I got mines in Raynham and it was smooth as ever didn't feel I was treated any other because of my race . Went in talked about movies and restaurants and they did my finger prints and I was done

Don't you guys mean you're "African American" [smile]
I heard black is a bad word.
