wolf223

i was going to post this in the mil peeps section, but figured you guys would get a laugh out of this. my son WAS due to fly back today from xxxxxxxxxx, but he missed his flight. so he got another night with his grandparents....

my ex-MIL just called me frantic. OMG! wolf223jr has 3 bullets in his bag! 3 bullets fell out of his bag!!!!

now, i'm thinking NFW... maybe his aunts boyfriend used the bag or something... i know it wasn't me because the bag my son is actually my gym bag. [rofl]

me: really?

her: yeah! omg! omg! omg!

me: um, that bag has NEVER seen the range. EVER. can you describe the rounds?

her: well, they are pointy, and they look like the tip of a cross tip screw driver....

me: they sound like hollow points. can you describe how long they are?

her: omg! omg! omg! they are about a inch long, and look like bullets.

[rofl] [rofl]

me: where were they? how did you find them? keep in mind that my range bag is upstairs in my attic

her: i know wolf223! but how did they get there?

me: can you please calm down and tell me where they were and how you found them. that's my gym bag, i've never loaded any guns or ammo in that bag.

her: well, i was loading Libby's flag and they fell out.

PROBLEM SOLVED, problem staying solved. libby is my ex-wife. my son's mom. my son's mom died almost a year ago. she's a veteran. she got a full military burial honor. [laugh]

so i explained that those are blank rounds, and the NCOIC or OIC of the burial team usually stick three rounds in the flag, spent cases from the "21 gun salute" when they present the flag to the next of kin.

her: omg! omg! grandpa wolf223 is gonna freak out tomorrow. can wolf223jr travel with ammo?

me: listen, i'll call grandpa wolf223 and explain it to him as well. when he checks the boy's bag, he needs to let the ticket agent know that he's traveling with his mom's flag, who had a burial detail and the 3 spent blank rounds are part of the burial detail and the nation's small token of their appreciation for her service. if they have any questions, give them my .mil e-mail and phone and i will explain this to them as well.

the kid will travel home with his mom's flag. end of discussion.

news tomorrow... 11 y/o arrested for possession of ammunition w/o an FID. eF you massachusetts. my son will bring back his mom's flag. [laugh]

RIP you crazy lady... [smile]

Kleenex please. RIP Ma'am.

I wonder if MA cops would be brazen enough to arrest someone without a ltc or fid who is carrying such a memorial flag. Those "spent rounds" require the holder to be licensed in MA.

dudes, any cop or TSA eF's with that flag and i'll be on the news.

a little background: my son's mom didn't die "good"... she had issues with drugs. my son has lived with me since he was 5. an ex-girl / friend of mine is actually his mom as he knows.

no klenex... [wink] jesus, you guys are bunch of pussys.

I was going to post this question a few weeks ago, but I figured several tin foil hats would get all warm. My uncle was buried with military honors a few weeks ago and I saw them sneak the spent rounds into the flag. What do they do in mASSachusetts? Substitute wooden shells?

Chris

Id only worry about the TSA, MA police would have to be tipped off to get involved. Tell him to put them back in the flag, and if its not a big deal put it in his checked bag.

dont worry.

i made a Key chain out of a spent 30-06. I travel out of Boston and carry it with me. Its all good, he wont get in trouble.

and i dont even tell them anything, i just stick my keys in the X-ray thing and let them go through together with my computer and crap.

Boston TSA doesnt care. But every time i come back, the dudes at the other airport look at it and i always say the same:
Me: "look, its a key chain, if you want me to i can throw it away in that trash barrel (point at trash barrel)"
TSA: "no, its ok, keep it"

The best part: I got that casing at a 4th of July parade when I was 15. The guys were shooting blanks and leaving the Casings on the street. No gun license, my dad didn't have one either.

I was thinking about making a 7.69 keychain, but the surplus ammo doesn't look as good. I am making one with an actual bullet, drilling a hole in it.

I will let you know if they take it away next time I travel.

update: the boy made it back with the flag w/o issues.

i will say that the team who folded that flag wasn't on their "a" game. i'll throw a pic up later / tomorrow.

Oh come on!!!!! You can't start a thread like this and then just end it with "nothing happened". Send him back to the airport and tell him not to come back until he gets on youtube.

Good to hear Wolf. Cracks me up how rediculous these a**h*** laws are. Saw an ad from a guy on The High Road site selling pens made from 30-06 carcasses. Wonder if he realizes he'd be complicit in selling one of those to a non-FID holder in Massachusetts?

the flag is supposed to be 3, 2, 1. right? or 4, 3, 1

google is eF'd up so i can't pull up us army drill and ceremonies field manual. [thinking]

Wolf, if you need a driver to get to where you need to be to get in the news, I have a vehicle, a full tank of gas and a few hours with nothing to do! Call!

Actually there is cause for concern, remember the kid, I think it was in Winchendon or one of the surrounding towns, that they made a big deal over an expended blank round that some VFW or American Legion honor guard gave him as a souvenir after a military ceremony. This was a couple of years ago. Ex-Gov of South Dakota, Joe Foss, had his Medal of Honor confiscated by a TSA screener because the medal had points like a throwing star. Some of you have had good experience with such things but anytime you are dealing with the TSA it is always a crap-shoot.

Probably nothing will happen, but ya never know [thinking]

At Bradley airport I had TSA try to take away a laser pointer (I used for work) because it was shaped like a cartridge. I left it behind with someone else. The tip of it unscrews and it changes how it looks, so now I just take the whole thing apart and haven’t had a problem since.

You have to understand the potential consequences. Teen kid driving his car at night. Cop pulls him over and decides to give him the business. Kid does not know the ropes and mistakenly says its ok to search his car. Officer finds an expended casing in the glove box. Kid gets arrested for posession of "components" without an FID card. Dad hires expensive lawyer, and bails kid out....

See where it is going. In MA, you can not have that without an FID or LTC. The fact that most people get away with it is not going to make much of an excuse at YOUR trial.
