SALEM — The country's first militia mustered on Salem Common in 1637, which began the foundation for what would become the Army National Guard.

North Shore residents will have the chance to witness that history on Saturday morning during a commemoration and re-enactment of the first muster on Salem Common, preceded by ceremonies in front of St. Peter's Church and the old Salem Armory (now the site of the Visitor Center).

There will be a band, rifle salutes, taps and Howitzer cannons as part of ceremonies that will commemorate the 373rd anniversary of the First Muster.
