Hi,

In this forum we will try to answer or provide information about licensing, gun models, availability of parts, dealers, etc in the Philippines. We will be expecting assistance on many subjects here from our senior members of Northeast Shooters forum. Thank you.

Sincerely,

239, welcome (I assume you own the Sig 239 in 9mm?).

Derek, too bad but the poll software is a "pick one" only. You can't set that up to choose more then 1 choice. Only solution would be to add more poll items for multiple choices! Not elegant, that's for sure.

Lets see, just in pistol calibers....

I have chamberings for the following:

.22 cb, .22 Long Rifle, .22 Magnum, .25 ACP, .32 ACP, .380/9mm Kurtz, 9mm Para, 9x21 .357 Sig, .38 S&W Special, .357 S&W Magnum, .40 S&W Auto, 10mm Auto, .41 S&W Magnum, .44 S&W Special, .44 S&W Magnum, .45 ACP, .480 Ruger, and .500 S&W Magnum

I think that covers it. Just reading box flaps, but there could be something in the safe I don't have ammo for. (heaven forbid)

OK, I don't actually have a pistol chambered for .22 cb, I shoot that in the one chambered for .22 short, but everything else I do have a specific firearm for. (guess I need to get some .22 short)

By the way, if you get a Sig 239 in .40 S&W, you can get 9mm and .357 Sig drop-in barrels from Bar-Sto and you SHOULD get a few 9mm mags, but then you'll have a compact pistol that can shoot all three calibers with a minimal swap time. other models offer the same flexibility. Can't start with a 9mm because the slide won't pass the larger barrels, and the .40 mags hold the .357 Sig rounds just fine, but .357 Sig mags do not hold .40 rounds.

By the way, the .357 Sig is really .355 which is basiaclly the size of a 9mm bullet, so the .357 Sig is really just a souped up 9mm round. I've long since lost count of the number of chamberings there are for 9mm. I have 4 personally, but I know there is at least a dozen or so. Naturally, the NATO round is the 9x19, or 9mm Parabellum, or 9mm Luger and is the most common when anyone says 9mm, but be aware that it is but one of many. The .380 is also known as 9mm Kurtz or 9x17.

I don't even want to start on the .45 chamberings.

HA, I knew I missed one. I have a .45 Colt too - out of ammo on that one.

Be careful when you ask about calibers, be specific. (^_^)

Chris, you are a show-off! [lol]

I've got many of the ones you listed.

I currently have 1 pkg of CCI .22Sh to sell, I sold the gun a few years ago and more recently found the ammo (sold all the other .22Sh that I had). I'll probably sell it at the BR&P swap meet in October.

Welcome to the club! You have an initial response there man... hoped your not overwhelmed... [wink] ! I got myself an Steyr M9 and a .38S&W and looking forward to getting a 40 before the year ends. :D

All of the above, other than .40, plus .22 magnum, .357 magnum, and maybe a few others. My safe is kinda dark...

:D ... you've got to put some lighting there to be sure which one you'll gonna grab!

Hi Chris,

I've got only two [Steyr and SW] and kinda interested in getting a 40 but not really familiar with with the P239... are you saying that in case I'll consider the Sig239 that I can just buy myself a barrel for .357 & 9mm and use the same base pistol? How was its performance if you wouldnt mind?... thanks.

I suppose I could, but it kinda adds to the mystery and surprise on the days that I finally reach waaay back in the safe.

Wheeeee!

Yes, same pistol. Different barrel, and you SHOULD use a 9mm Mag, although I've used the .40 and it works. I would not trust anything but the factory setup for defense, but it's a cheap way to add a few calibers you might not otherwise have. Barrels cost me like $180 each.

I don't understand.

You want to get licensing and dealer info from the USA regarding the Phillipines ? You are running a poll to see what kind of weapons we own,why do you need this information ?

If I am wrong or assuming things it is because I am paranoid about someone from another country trying to get information about how well armed citizens of the United States are.

Edit: I have read the original post 7 times now and I still can't figure out the motives,or the intention of the post.

Hi Greg,

I think you misunderstood me... prepared this forum to assist those who are in Manila and received info as well from Manila regarding licensing, and assistance in regards to technical information [maintenance] from vets in this forum. Licencing can be answered by those who are in Manila and technical from the experts like you! Got it! :D

This is just basically sharing our passion, our love, our interest with pistols!

I dont think that peoples' response to the poll would actually reflect the actual nos. of guns people own in America and how many Americans own a gun... that will require hundreds if not thousand million dollars to that but I dont want to be very technical about it! This is just exclusively for those who are in this forum and you may opt not to anwer the poll. I happened to own a Kimber and I am proud to have it and its made in the USA! I hope nothing is wrong about that... [wink]

Nothing wrong with that at all, matter of fact,I am jealous.

It cost me a fortune and I am now as poor as a pauper! [oops]

Guns here cost twice, and even more. Licensing alone costs a whopping $200! [evil]

Almost sounds like MA!!

Many handguns cost close to 2x what they get in a "free state" since dealer sales of handguns are so restricted to ONLY handguns that are on an "approved list". NO old guns will ever be approved as mfr has to submit 4-5 NEW samples to be destructively tested. This artificially dries up supply in the state.

Licensing officially cost $100, BUT some places require tests and/or training on each renewal which drives the price up to as high as $400. Another way to limit the number of legal gun owners.

I think that the thread on how to get a Boston LTC had a number close to that when he was done with the BS. I know of one excellent instructor who charges >$200 for a one-on-one class to get a LTC. A class is required for new applicants and some chiefs require it for each renewal. Said instructor has put a lot of time/effort into creating his entire curriculum in PowerPoint so that everyone gets the same material and nothing is forgotten in teaching the class. He also supplies guns and ammo for applicants to practice as part of the deal.

IIRC Boston charges an additional $100 to take their range test, so LTC costs $200 in Boston to begin with.

No need to make it worse than it alread is [wink]. In Boston, the $100 application fee includes the range test.

But you're right that the application fee isn't the only cost involved. Because first-time applicants need to take a gun safety class (approx. $100) and join a gun club (approx. $100 (plus, often, the gun club's $100 application fee)) the total cost for a new license applicant can be well over $300, and generally more than $400. If you choose to take a private gun safety tutorial rather than a basic class, you could add $200 onto the cost of the class and the bottom line.

I get the sense that you don't have to go through all that nonsense to renew your license, so license renewal in Boston should only be $100. But I don't know for sure.

I have the feeling that not only the constitution of the Philippines was based on the US's... but our gun law as well! [evil]

of so many States... why based ours with a stiff MA gun law! [oops] :D

But at least perhaps theirs [MA] is properly implemented! I don't feel safe to some of those who were approved here [Manila]... we can have a license even without taking the actual seminar or drugtest. You can just even pay extra and you can pass the neuro test, just fill up the form!!! [help]
