Two men have been jailed for running what is thought to be the UK's first fully functioning gun factory on a Sussex industrial estate.

Greg Akehurst, of no fixed address, and Kyle Wood, of Littlehampton, both pleaded guilty at Kingston Crown Court to conspiring to sell or supply guns.

Akehurst was jailed for 18 years and Wood for 11 and a half years.

During the trial, the court heard police found parts that could have been made into more than 100 weapons.

This was bound to happen.

Anybody can make a gun nowadays.

Too bad the people can't protect themselves.

I watched the video, and they showed the gun being test fired. But they were unable to show the gun successfully repeating. It jammed after every shot, and then the slide had to be manipulated to get it into battery. It is definitely possible for a small machine shop to produce effective repeaters, but apparently that did not happen here.

18 years and 11 years? Dayum, that's harsh (assuming they actually serve all of it).

I wonder what it is about the Brit's legal system that got them to plead guilty.

How long do murderers serve in prison?

Every year around 300 people in England and Wales are given a life sentence for murder. About 5,500 people are currently serving a prison sentence for the same. And over 200 people annually are released having served the prison part of their sentence.

On average, those who are released will have served about 16 years in jail, with a life on licence with the probation service to follow, unless they are recalled to prison.

But apart from the most serious cases, that doesn’t mean life in prison.

Instead, most people have to serve a minimum term in prison, which is determined by the judge in court after they’re found guilty.

Once that term is over they can be considered for release on parole, if the Parole Board decides that it is safe to release an offender back into the community.
