melonite finish

Came across this and the melonite process is no joke! One thing that caught my attention is the gent in the video basically said melonite corrosion resistance is as good as stainless.
So is it cheaper to use "steel" then melonite finish or just stainless?

it basically treats (case hardening) the metal while it's in a ferrous stage. Very good finish.

My first XD has got to be close to 10 years old now, well over 20k rounds fired, beat to hell and abused, and I must say, the Melonite finish has held up quite well.

I believe melonite exceeds the corrosion resistance of "stainless" steel.

Come on, all you need to do is melt salt. 1100 degrees or so. Right.

They make rust converters that turn the rust to melonite. I use the brand corroseal myself. Not sure I'd want it on my firearm as it might change dimensions but the underside of my expedition is now melonite instead of rust. It's pretty amazing.

Sure you don't mean magnetite? Melonite is a whole different ballgame.
