California gun owners have been put at risk by the Attorney General’s office after a new dashboard leaked their personal information.
The California Department of Justice’s 2022 Firearms Dashboard Portal went live on Monday with publicly-accessible files that include identifying information for those who have concealed carry permits.

The leaked information includes the person’s full name, home address, date of birth, and date their permit was issued. The data also shows the type of permit issued, indicating if the permit holder is a member of law enforcement or a judge.

The Reload reviewed a copy of the Lost Angeles County database and found 244 judge permits listed in the database. The files included the home addresses, full names, and dates of birth for all of them. The same was true for seven custodial officers, 63 people with a place of employment permit, and 420 reserve officers.

2,891 people in Los Angeles County with standard licenses also had their information compromised by the leak, though the database appears to include some duplicate entries as well. The databases with detailed information appeared to have been removed from public access by Tuesday afternoon.

The office of Attorney General Rob Bonta (D.) did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

The Reload is not publishing the leaked data in order to protect the privacy of those affected by the leaks. However, posts across social media indicate many others were able to obtain the documents during the time they were live on the state’s website. There are also several social media posts that indicate similar identifying information from the state’s dealer record of sales database and its “assault weapons” registry were part of the leak, though The Reload was unable to review copies of those databases.

The leak comes just over a year after California moved to provide detailed personal information of all gun owners in the state to educational institutions across the country despite objections over concerns about data security and individual privacy. It also comes as a similar policy to California’s restrictive gun carry law was invalidated by the Supreme Court, which will likely result in many more Californians being added to the same database the state just leaked.

In a press release announcing the leaky dashboard, Bonta said the goal was “increasing public trust between law enforcement and the communities we serve.” He said the dashboard was about ensuring transparency to “better understand the role and potential dangers of firearms.”

Instead, the leaked private information of gun owners is likely to increase the risk criminals will target their homes for burglaries–something the state’s dashboard reports happened 145,377 times in 2020 alone.

Yep, completely accidental on purpose....... Someone should set up a web site to give out the info of the California's Attorney General's staff. See how they like it.
Someone should file a section 1983 suit against Bonta &c for effectively doxxing thousands of people and putting them at potential risk.

Just in time for the anti-2A groups to create a list for them to file false red flag claims against everyone on that list, because that’s coming. Why do you think that these groups want access to that information of who owns firearms? 5 years later, after you successfully defend yourself from the falsified claim, you can reapply for a license. Oh yeah, your seized firearms were ”destroyed,” which means local LE now has them in their safes at home, or they sold them on the black market.

It's a good point that AntiFA/DNC psychos in CA now have access to every CA gun owner's full name, home address, date of birth, and date their permit was issued.

What is interesting about the "leak" is that it provides plausible deniability for the CA AG or DOJ to use this information to attack, red flag, send in the IRS, hassle, investigate or otherwise deprive gun owners of their rights and blame "the leak".

Since the data also shows the type of permit issued, indicating "if the permit holder is a member of law enforcement or a judge", those folks will get a pass and will not be targeted.

If it was just the commoners they would just get away with it.
244 Judges ?
Someone is going to get loved tenderly.
Yeah,
Best part of this is nearly every one of those permits was probably issued to the wealthy and politically connected. Their own classism just bit them in the ass.

I want to hear one of the educational institutions come clean on whether
the beautiful people had been sanitized from their data extracts.

The provenance of all this data being put in a portal. They said the data would be private.

This problem will take care of itself. Unfortunately, it may be at the sacrifice of a few legal licensed gun owners.
Just imagine if someone home-invades the wrong damned rec room...

Also, WTF is this?
Why does an educational institution need personal information of gun owners?
Where do you think gun-grabbers learn to how lie with statistics?

People are such idiots nowadays.

I learned in 6th grade,
but for modern snowflakes,
it's a freaking graduate program.

They don't need personal information for that.

And this is why the NSA should not be allowed to collect the data and 'metadata' that Ed Snowden spilled the beans on. The only way to prevent them
abusing it is if they do not have it. It is that simple. Do you remember that at least 30% of all phone calls information made by US citizens was in that database back
in 2014. What do you think they have in it now? And they promise they would never misuse it. Want to bet?

The real irony here is that they're in violation of California's GDPR laws, but you can't sue them because they're the government, and the government is the one who decides if you can sue the government.

Moral of the story here is that lists are bad. These people are so screwed for the rest of their lives thanks to this release of PII. Every one of them will end up being the victim of identity theft for sure, and there's no possible way to get relief from that.
