Massachusetts Legislature Voting on Anti-Civil Rights Bill TODAY!

They most certainly are in session all weekend since they have until midnight tomorrow to get this done, on top of getting 8 other bills to the governor. Tomorrow they'll definitely go until midnight so stay tuned.

--Edit--
There's also some political conflict between the House and the Senate right now over a ton of stuff, which has the possibility to affect their ability to move on the gun control language in the way that its proponents would like to see reintroduced. Second to that since tomorrow is the last day of formal session, they don't have time to come back and override Gov. Baker's vetoes. This means that they need to be very deliberate in what they send him and are likely softening anything that pushes too far to an extreme.
Don't forget that they use the tactic of stopping the official clock just before midnight and continuing on with legistraiting!

That's been done a number of times before, so that they are "legal".

I don't think they want to turn America into a third world shithole because they wouldn't want to live there. They want a Socialist country controlled by the Leftist, Professional Elite which would consist of Academic Elitist and Govt. Stooges devoted to the cause of rooting out all Conservative, white resistance. The Hispanic migration to the GOP is sending shock waves thru the Leftist Elite even as the Southern border is allowing Millions of illegal Hispanics into the country.
I probably didn't phrase that right.
They want YOU to live in a third world shithole .
They will be doing just fine in gated communities while you live in a 300 square foot government controlled tenement and wait in line for bread.

I renewed this week. The Licensing officer wasn’t amused at the prospect of doing twice the work.

I wonder if there is an objective to this that we have yet to see. It seems like they are deliberately trying to blow up the licensing system by doubling the work?

maybe he will be thusly inclined to pencil whip the renewals through, barring anything particularly egregious on the applicant's record.

Is there any ability for people to go into the Statehouse to talk to their reps? Just use listed numbers? Anybody have that list handy?
Sen Velis texted me last night, said to start calling Reps again.

Yes, you are correct. They already live in gated communities like DC, Manhattan, Beacon Hill and the Seaport, Nasty Nancy in her compound in SF,etc.

My Rep. Natalie Higgins is a Socialist gun grabber who won't even return my emails so I won't waste my time. It's zero hour for our rights even thou we technically don't have any in this State. Today will be VERY interesting.

you should still harass them. Sometimes it just makes you feel better.

every once in a while, when I have a few minutes, I will send my trifecta of reps an email demonstrating the case of an American killed by an illegal. I never get a response, of course, but I smile just knowing someone in a democratic office saw it.

That’s great news.

On the question of whether they are going to effectively double the fee (half the term), sure.
But still codifying "suitability" and "interviews" is just more unconstitutional nose thumbing at the SCOTUS ruling. It is the same game different name.

Will wait and see where it all shakes out and what lawsuits can be brought.

With the current court I would like to see a legal run at the LTC as being a "permit to purchase." I mean is there anything more unconstitutional based?

Well, again, the anti-2A MA pols stated they plan to come at us later with a vengeance and I see no reason not to believe them. The real battle is yet to come.
But I'll take the temporary win for now if it works out that way. [thumbsup]

Double the fee was bad, but not the worst part (IMHO). Double the license bullshit hassle was the killer part. Thank you to whoever got to the Senate and let them know of the incredible problems for everyone this would have created.

Someone earlier pointed out that the "interview" mention was not necessarily a new legal requirement for a formal police interrogation, but merely a reference to what already is SOP for most new licenses and even for some renewals in some towns. If true, this doesn't bother me as much as I initially squawked about.

USE THIS!!!!!!!

I CALLED FROST'S OFFICE, GOT MURATORE AND SPOKE WITH HIM A FEW MINUTES. THEN EMAILED MURATORE, FROST, JONES, MIKE MOORE (SEN.), SMOLA, ALICEA (MIGHT NOT BE THERE ANY MORE), WHELAN, FATTMAN, TARR, GOBI, TURCO. TWO DIFFERENT EMAILS, TO KEEP SOME THINGS SEPARATE, AND FOR MORE REACH/EFFECT.

VERY IMPORTANT TO CALL, THEN FOLLOW UP WITH AN EMAIL. THE CALL GETS THEIR NOTICE AND IMMEDIATE ATTENTION, THE FOLLOWUP EMAIL GIVES THEM DETAILS TO ACT UPON.

THANK YOU.

What does this mean?

What does this mean?
Means the senate and the house are fighting about the details. The house version has the reduction to 3 years and the mandatory in person interview. The senate version does not.
I am sure there are other differences and i am not sure what are the exact points they are arguing about. It does mean they are spending a lot of additional time on this bill.

f***ing Gobi. She's getting a nasty gram tomorrow, even though Senate version was 6 years, the vote her vote should be no. She almost lost last time......I'll remind her of that if she keeps voting like this.

Believe it or not the emails aren't just summarily deleted, and if thoughtfully drafted actually can make a difference.

Avoiding form emails from NRA/GOAL and writing them in your own words is the most effective strategy. No one at the Legislature likes to get form emails.

This is the most dangerous
"The legislation prohibits a person who is currently subject to a permanent or temporary harassment prevention order from obtaining a license to carry firearms"

Anyone can get one for any reason...
They refused to issue my brother his LTC, he was rude at a city council meeting… They issued him as LTC after like a year or more and then yanked it the next day.

While he is an a**h***.. he wasn’t wrong, they denied him his 3 minutes to speak and then killed the audio and video…

They basically f***ed him for hurting their feeling..

I got to go down their in a couple weeks to speak my peace aswell.

Anybody know how to read an 11a conference committee report? Specifically the status of Tech, HIC, NIC? (NIC = Not in contest?)
1) i am not sure they ever ended the session, seems like the senate at least is still going.
2)
Here are the things they argued over:

HOUSE:

SECTION 39. Said section 131 of said chapter 140, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out, in line 73, the word “may” and inserting in place thereof the following words: - shall, following a personal interview,.

SECTION 40. Subsection (d) of said section 131 of said chapter 140, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out the first paragraph and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:
-
A person residing or having a place of business within the jurisdiction of the licensing authority or any law enforcement officer employed by the licensing authority or any person residing in an area of exclusive federal jurisdiction located within a city or town may submit to the licensing authority or the colonel of state police an application for a license to carry firearms, or renewal of the same, which the licensing authority or the colonel shall issue if it appears that the applicant is not a prohibited person or determined to be unsuitable to be issued a license as set forth in this section.

SENATE:

SECTION 7. Subsection (d) of said section 131 of said chapter 140, as so appearing, is hereby amended by striking out the first paragraph and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph: -

A person residing or having a place of business within the jurisdiction of the licensing authority or any law enforcement officer employed by the licensing authority or any person residing in an area of exclusive federal jurisdiction located within a city or town may submit to the licensing authority or the colonel of state police an application for a license to carry firearms, or renewal of the same, which the licensing authority or the colonel shall issue if it appears that the applicant is neither a prohibited person nor determined to be unsuitable to be issued a license as set forth in this section.

Result: Compromise. Not sure what that looks like yet.

FYI: There is a lot more to this bill than just LTC related lines.

Update: There is more to it than just the above. The 6 -> 3 year expiration is listed as status HIC. I don't know what that means. This was in the HOUSE version, and not in the SENATE version.

So, what of the three-year licensing?
It appears that part of the legislation did not make it to the bill's final version. So the six years license remains. For now, at least. It also casts a wider net on who is prohibited from getting a license to carry. (e.g., temporary/permanent harassment prevention order). And finally, police will be required to conduct a personal interview.

Looks like the 6 -> 3 year renewal did not make it. So we are still at 6 years.
The in person interview did make it, however its worded so its only for initial application and does not seem to apply to renewals. Its on bakers desk now.

provided that upon an initial application for a license to carry firearms, the licensing authority shall conduct a personal interview with the applicant.
