Mass Stabbing at Silver City Galleria

Guess what? After 9/11 a review of most 911 and emergency service communication systems indicated that they were obsolete, unreliable, and not secure. Despite billions in DHS grants most communities still haven't bothered to fix the problem 10+ years later. Because radios aren't sexy and tacticool.

It's not the radios. The PD and FD have not gotten along for as long as I have lived here (1989). The cops won't call the fire when they should and the FD won't call the cops when they should.

Mass has started to roll out a new 911 system. It will be a huge update over what's in use now. Eventually it will be able to receive text and video chat. Only a few universities will have that feature right away to test it.

I honestly didn't know until the report came out last week that Taunton 911 wasn't all housed together. Police and fire/rescue are in separate buildings. WTF?!?!?!?!?!

Maybe. But they got pretty criticized for it. Lots of confusion in the 911 calls. Although, how often do you have a rampaging knife-wielder driving through the city?

Lack of interoperability too!
