Marlin 336 question

I've got a hankering for a lever gun... among others.

In looking I ran across this description: "THIS HAS THE CROSS BOLT SAFTY, BUT IS IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION"

Any thoughts as to why the cross bolt safety is bad?
