ROCHESTER — Police say a man was within his rights when he walked into Hannaford on Milton Road with a holstered gun Thursday night.

Police received a call from Hannaford around 8 p.m. after a man was seen entering the store with a holstered gun, Sgt. Steve Burke said.

"It was nothing," Burke said. The man had a permit to carry a concealed weapon and committed no crime, he said.

Still, he said it is a good idea to call police if you see anything suspicious.

"Most definitely. That's how we're able to solve crime," he said. "We welcome it."

I hope the officer inform the idiot that called that there's nothing "suspicious" about having a holstered firearm.

Maybe next election, I will have all women I see voting arrested. [rolleyes]

If it was visible enough to spark a phone call to the cops I doubt it was concealed. Making the permit a moot point. No permit required in NH for open carry. Was it really concealed? Did he volunteer the permit information? Did the cops ask him for it?

In any case it ended well and I hope this information that he was comitting no crime was passed on to whoever made the call.

People who are "anti gun" (which is a misnomer, its really anti rights) should be placed in mandatory re education classes to screw their heads back on straight.

Last summer, I was one of four NES members walking around open carrying while buying beer in a Hannaford in Rindge. As far as I know, nobody called the cops.

Two points on this.....
A) The guy may have been carrying concealed, but his shirt opened up when he reached for a case of soda (or something like that)
B) What if you are an undercover cop??? Never see those stories get reported, do you???

I'm going to guess that the 'gunman' in this case looked nothing like what an average citizen imagines when they think of an undercover cop.

Last spring I saw a man walking into a CVS in downtown Boston. His jacket was open, and I could plainly see his pistol in a holster.

He also was smart enough to drape his Boston PD badge in a holder around his neck. No phone calls on that one.

And what does that look like, Jack Webb in Dragnet?[smile]

Most undercover cops I've seen look like bikers, roughians, drug addicts ect., trying to play the part as well as possible. The days of suit and tie wearing "dicks" as depicted in "Dragnet" are long gone for the most part.

Funny how the minds eye holds the picture.

People around the northeast still believe that people in Texas still ride horses and carry sixguns on their hips.....talk about being overly provincial.[rolleyes]

They also think that people who live south of DC are illiterate.

Ya, no kidding.

They also wonder why most people west of the Mississippi and south of DC can't stand them......on second thought, they don't because they think their opinion doesn't matter.

I kind of have to laugh at this one. I am a member at sippican, and Dexter lane is within site of the front door of this place. I RELIGIOUSLY go shooting around 10 am in the summer months, and when Im done, its to Hannofords for a turkey, ham and cheeze with bacon and a soda. They make KILLER subs there and everyone theres pretty laid back. Must have been another out of towner seeing this. And yes, my PPS is always in my waistband when i go in there.

I cannot agree that we should act like socialists and fascists.

It would be much better if we, those of us who own, use, bear and carry arms do so, do so often, bring others to do so and be introduced to shooting, AND become the re-education force, there, all the time, all across the U.S. of A.

Sippican is in Rochester, MA. The article is referring to the Hannaford at 11 Milton Road in Rochester, NH.

I think someone needs to adjust their sarcasm detector. [wink]

He's on to something here - but it's more important for the cause to not hide who we are than it is to be armed at all times. On the later point, I say keep em guessing :)

I am "out" about this at work. I've recruited a few people into shooting, but equally importantly, I demonstrate to other people that normal peaceful people are gun owners, not just people with two first names who chew tobacco.

We're doing a private NRA Home Firearms Safety Class in the next couple of weeks or so for three of my wife's co-workers and one of their GFs.

Hiding that you're a gun person is exactly the wrong way to be... The more we hide, the less people grasp that millions carry every day and there aren't bloodbaths.

LOL... everybody laugh at the assclown!!!!<----------- I didnt know the difference.. LOL ... and i thought the name of the place in rochester mass was something else LOL .... BING... thats my head off the CHU wall
