Man dies after shooting in Mattapan for city's 55th homicide

By Andrew Ryan, Globe Correspondent

A man died today after being shot Wednesday night in Mattapan, pushing the number of Boston homicide victims in 2006 to 55.

The death of the man, who police did not identify, puts the number of slayings one higher than the same time last year, when homicides hit a 10-year high.

At 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, police responded to a call for a person shot at 10 Wood Ave. Officers found the man bleeding from a gunshot wound at Harvard Street and Cummins Highway. He was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he died.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470 or the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 1-800-494-TIPS.

How about we give the City of Boston $300 gift cards, and they give a turned in gun and a LTC to a trustworty lawabiding citizen.
