magazines law in ct .

CT has never had a magazine limit. Considering the turn-out at the public hearing for the most recent legislation regarding magazines and how quickly it was struck down- no such legislation has a chance in hell of ever passing.

CTSupra,
I have to disagree.

The people who drafted that legislation made a SERIOUS error. The law, as written, would have prohibited all possession of mags holding more than 10 rounds. Not prohibited the new manufacture and sale of said mags, but actually prohibited any possession.

So if you owned mags, you had to get rid of them.

Many legislators, who are generally anti-gun recognized the potential for this law to turn thousands of gun owners into felons if they just did nothing, and voiced their disapproval.

If instead, the law had simply attempted to prohibit the new sale and manufacture of standard capacity magazines, it would have probably passed.
So all it takes for this to become law is:

1) Another tragedy (or opportunity, if you are Eric Holder) where a wack job uses a mag with more than 10 rounds in it to commit some kind of high profile killing.
2) The anti-gun people in the legislature to go for a more politically palatable ban on future sales
3) the People of CT to not react like they did last year because "no such legislation has a chance in hell of ever passing".

Seriously, I was able to swing several anti-gun legislators by simply explaining to them that someone who bought a basic Glock and just kept it in their closet, who was not a gun enthusiast, would suddenly become a felon because inaction would result in them being in possession of items made illegal after they legally purchased them. i.e. ex-post facto.

The other side made a tactical error. If they had not gone for the outright ban on possession, there is a very good chance that we'd all be living in a state where you could no longer purchase new standard capacity mags.

supra is right, i contacted a member on the board holding the public comment meeting and they said the public turnout was the key in it never making out of the judiciary committee.

I'm not saying that the turnout wasn't a big factor in it never getting out of committee.

I'm saying that it is naive and WRONG to then conclude then that "no such legislation has a chance in hell of ever passing." in the future.

That was my problem with his statement. Read my reply. All it takes is for a more "reasonable" bill to be drafted. ie. No future new sales of standard cap mags, rather than a prohibition on ownership, and for people to NOT show up at a future hearing and its a done deal.

Massive. Start calling your reps now.

It was already in the pipeline. Coalition of CT sportsmen, which is the longest and principal lobby group here, has already warned that the mag ban was coming again in the next session.

Now it is most assuredly going to get well past committee, and likely there will be more tagged to it.

Sen. Bye and Rep. Godfrey‘s proposals—which will be packaged as one bill—will seek to:

Prohibit the sale and possession of any rifle, shotgun or pistol magazine with a capacity of more than 10 rounds;

Expand the definition of an ‘assault weapon’ under current Connecticut state law to apply to firearms which exhibit just one particular physical trait, as opposed to two (i.e., the presence of a pistol grip beneath the action of the weapon);

Require the registration with state law enforcement officials—and the biennial registration renewal—of all firearms by model and serial number;

Institute a 50-percent sales tax on the sale of ammunition and firearms magazines;

Require a permit to purchase ammunition;

Prohibit the online purchase of ammunition;

Prohibit the purchase of ammunition in Connecticut by anyone who is not legally authorized to possess a firearm in Connecticut;

Prohibit the storage of firearms and ammunition in a manner that allows access by persons under age 18.

Don't count on it. NH went for Obama in this year's election. Southern NH has become a 495 Tech company commuter community. Its filling up with Ma**h***s.

Sen. Bye and Rep. Godfrey‘s proposals—which will be packaged as one bill—will seek to:

Prohibit the sale and possession of any rifle, shotgun or pistol magazine with a capacity of more than 10 rounds; (got it in MA)

Expand the definition of an ‘assault weapon’ under current Connecticut state law to apply to firearms which exhibit just one particular physical trait, as opposed to two (i.e., the presence of a pistol grip beneath the action of the weapon); (great..... give MA ideas...)

Require the registration with state law enforcement officials—and the biennial registration renewal—of all firearms by model and serial number; (we pretty much have that with needing a license to possess and FA-10s..)

Institute a 50-percent sales tax on the sale of ammunition and firearms magazines; (they tax us on everything else here, why not..)

Require a permit to purchase ammunition; (got that in MA)

Prohibit the online purchase of ammunition; (got that in MA, pretty much)

Prohibit the purchase of ammunition in Connecticut by anyone who is not legally authorized to possess a firearm in Connecticut; (got that in MA)

Prohibit the storage of firearms and ammunition in a manner that allows access by persons under age 18. (got that in MA)

i don't see that as being so tough..... bwah ha ahhahahaha suckers.....

Pay attention Interlogic. MA does not have mandatory registration. I just moved to MA with guns and none of them have been registered. The law does not require it. MA records transactions. Not ownership.

The CT law would go FAR beyond MA law by requiring you to confirm what you owned every 2 years.

i pray to god your wrong. just based upon the popularity AR's have gotten in the past 10 years, i am hoping the populace of some free state like texas (or please god wyoming or utah) will force the state to tell the feds to FO like a bunch of them have with marijuana. i can definitely see it happening if the feds try for confiscation. we'll see.

as for CT, i have pretty much given up hope, already have a renter lined up for my brand new house i just bought, im currently looking for work possibilities in a few states, and pricing property. its really sad, i would consider myself a good contributing member of society, i pay my 40% and accept it, but if they are going to deny me the liberty i demand, i will get out of this state ASAP, and i hope many more like me follow, this stupid little socialist state can be goddamned.
