Those Army FMs are correct. The M1903 and M1 are clip fed, because they have non-detachable magazines. Whereas the M14 and M16 have detachable magazines, and don't need clips.

My intent was to clarify that many GIs use incorrect terminology all the time despite the nomenclature listed in the manuals.
A clip is that thing that flips up to make killing people easier,correct ?
