Drive-by shooting leads to off-Cape arrest
SOUTH YARMOUTH - Five people suspected in an early-morning
drive-by shooting in Yarmouth were arrested this morning in Leominster after bulletins were issued statewide about their get-away vehicle.
No one was hurt in the drive-by, which happened at 3 a.m. at 447 Winslow Gray Road, according to a Yarmouth Police Department press release.

Five Yarmouth patrol officers and Sgt. Christopher McEachern rushed to the home and learned that someone in a black Nissan Pathfinder confronted one of the occupants and fired several shots at him and the home with an assault weapon. Then the sport utility vehicle, with several people inside, took off.

Yarmouth and state police saturated the immediate area with patrols as Dispatcher Robert Sullivan sent bulletins out over police radio and computer to state and local authorities.

About 5:15 a.m., state police spotted the Pathfinder in Fitchburg. In a high-risk stop, state troopers from the Leominster barracks pulled over the SUV and arrested its five occupants. Also found was a Mac-10 .45 caliber machine pistol.

The five people, whose names were not released, are being held in the Leominster State Police barracks. Yarmouth police Det. Eric Nuss is investigating. More information is expected to be released later today.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Nuss at 508-775-0445 extension 132.

Is it just me, or there has been a sharp up-tic in violence on the cape this year?
