Does an M1a fall into the AWB? They have Magazine outside of pistol grip, but theres no pistol grip. Some have a bayo lug. And the flash suppressor? I dont know enough about them I guess.

Depends when they were made. after the icky gun ban 94, they were required to remove bayonet lug. still legal in MA, just need to find its age to see if you can or cant have bayonet lug. (fwiw, my favorite long range rifle I own)

No bayonet lug and no pistol grip on most models, you're fine.

This. On a run-of-the-mill M1A from Springfield Armory today, the only "evil feature" is the threaded bbl/flash hider.

When you start running into problems is when you tacticool it out, and do something like put it in the Troy or Sage tactical stock (with pistol grip and telescoping stock).
