M&P 15-22 for appleseed course

Yes it is, and yes you will need a sling. At the one I went to back in April of 2010 one guy had one and did very well with it. You should get a two point swing, not one of those tacticool ones. I'll assume you are going to one in MA and will have only 10 round magazines. If that's the case, bring five even though the qualification stages are 40 rounds. In case of a magazine malfunction, you'll be able to recover and continue.

yes and yes. But appleseed teaches the traditional use of a sling, so get a USGI web sling not a tactical type

You don't HAVE to use a sling, but you will greatly benefit from one and we will teach you the proper use of one.

The 15-22 is a great rifle for Appleseed, and 4-5 magazines will be helpful, but again, they aren't a requirement. A bare minimum is the ability to load at least 10 rounds between 2 mags (8 and 2 or 5 and 5).

Don't skip out on an Appleseed because you don't think you have enough mags or you don't have a sling yet. The instructors will work with you regardless of what you brought.

@ garys. i DID see the ones in harvard , there are a bunch of dates i figured i could could just pick one. How was it is it all levels of skill, thanks for the tip on the mags, i have 3 but ill grab a few more , im just running iron sights/ factory. i really like the idea of sharpening my skills in marksmanship. would you be willing to share what you scored ?

As has already been said, yes and yes.

For a sling, get something like this: http://www.appleseedstore.flyingcart.com/?p=detail&pid=10&cat_id=
I prefer the cotton ones. Shipping from the Appleseed store is something like $2 or $3.

We have people who have, literally, never touched a rifle before and we have folks who are within a few points of scoring Rifleman at our shoots - and everything in between. We work with you and your rifle to give you the fundamentals of rifle marksmanship - the instructors work the whole line, with all our shooters.

When I first shot Rifleman, I scored a 210 - the minimum Rifleman score. I've shot other AQTs up in the 220s and I did a full distance AQT this summer (with steel targets the size of the "grey" or the 4 & 5 rings) and hit 36 out of 40 shots at 100/200/300/400 yards with a scoped AR.

id like to try and hit the next one oct 15th but dont think i have the means at the moment .... are these annual ?

More like monthly - we try to have a full schedule of shoots. I don't have next year's schedule done yet but give it a few weeks.

More importantly, there are several categories of shooter who shoot for free or a reduced price.
Active Military or reserves (any branch): free
LEOs: free
Disabled: free
Elected official: free
Revolutionary War Reenactor in costume: free
Women: $5/day
Under 21: $2.50/day

Are tube fed rifles ok? I have a stevens 87 i would do this with

Yup. Recommend you get either a speed loader or stop at McDonalds on the way to the shoot and grab some straws - they make good speedloaders for tube-fed rifles. The recommendation for a sling still stands. And do make sure you've got some way of adjusting those sights with you - I'm guessing for your Stevens you'll need a brass punch and a hammer.

Should i remove the scope and bring it with me or leave it at home?
