Hey guys, whats the best way to get a smaller aperture on the rear sight for the m1. On my service rifle I have the kind where these different size hoods will screw in to the aperture so you can make it really tiny. I want to do the same thing on the m1 since the tiny aperture gives me more confidence in shooting somehow. I could care less whether the clicks on the thing correspond to 1moa 1/2 or 1/4.

Do I just need to get the NM sight base and rear sight and then fit those?

you could go the route in the link above plus you could have a rear apeture assembly drilled and tapped to fit the hooded rear apertures you use on your service rifle.

I know one guy who had a Merit adjustable Iris installed on his garand and M1a... as issued legal though.

I am going in the oposite direction... I need bigger hole and stronger Rx!!!!https://www.meritcorporation.com/products.html

called him and he said he used the #4 goes from .025 to .150" aperture.
he also used a 1" extension to get the aperture closer to his eye.

This is kind of off topic but I jsut got a leather sling for the m1, its the same as the one I got for the service rifle. Are you meant to attach this thing differently? The CMP shows this setup http://thecmp.org/training-tech/armorers-corner/1907-sling-installation/ where the 2 keepers are on different bits of the sling, so to use this only one keeper would be up against you arm and the other one would be doing something irrelevant up front by the stock? Is this right?

Run it like your service rifle slings
What cmp shows is the old standard way.

I have run it both ways I have had the sling work looks running it the U.S. Army way.
I think you might find the US army way a,bit better when you need to carry it more than use it for shooting
