Finally got around to photographing the WWII German Luftwaffe Dagger that my dad took off of a dead German soldier. It has some minor pitting on the blade but otherwise is in pretty good condition. This and a pair of binoculars are all that are left from the things he brought home. A luger he had taken off of the same soldier was stolen in 1965 (ain't The Bronx grand?) and the box with his medals and other mementos is missing.

Nice! I have one that my grandfather gave me, it's a little larger and black not brown. He took it off a solider too. He told me that only the German officers were allowed to wear the swastika. Can anyone confirm this for me?

I am 99% sure that statement is false. My dad has been collecting WWII German uniforms, Visored hats, edged weapons and firearms since before I was born (1962) I have seen my share of enlisted man uniforms that had the swastika sewn to them.
I will however make a call to him to verify.
