Hi guys. My wife took the MFS class with a girlfriend of hers and they are applying for their LTCs. I am in a blue town, so there's no info. When we moved to the town my ALP LTC had expired and the PD gave me no trouble and gave me a new one (have had ALP LTC since '92). I read through the tips sticky but am still unclear as to how my wife should approach her application. Should she just put ALP or is it better to put the litany of purposes that I saw listed in another thread here somewhere? Also, when I applied I was told any references worked, even if family members. Still true? Can she put me? Other relatives with LTCs? Or does she need third parties? Any advice greatly appreciated.

When I went for my interview I left that part blank and asked what I should put, NBD.

The best references are from reputable people in your community. They often don't check them anyways.

References on a nice company letterhead from a law firm look really good, too.

The language on these letters should be short and sweet. I am writing to provide a reference for X, whom I have known for Y years and IMO is a suitable person to be issued an unrestricted LTC.

Thank you. If the PD is laid back about this, as I hope, then perhaps my wife and her friend can use each other as a reference (although they will probably end up applying around the same time). We also could obtain references from other friends outside of the town who have LTCs. Not sure we can get references from others in town since we do not know of anyone else in town that has an LTC and it's a delicate subject in this state as you know.

Dover. I understand there is a new chief and he's from Millis, which was green when he was there. Going with ALP unless they ask for more, in which case she will put "I am requesting an unrestricted Class A LTC for personal protection, target, hunting, collecting, competition, recreational shooting, and all other lawful purposes." I found the other long thread on what to put if ALP by itself is not acceptable and this seemed to be the best wording. She can put two non-family references down (both have LTCs), but I agree I doubt they care that much. .

Does anybody know first-hand of any instances where the references listed on the FID/LTC application have actually been contacted by the licensing authority? I haven't heard of any. (The towns that demand letters from references up front are a different ball game.)

I'm unaware of anyone's references being contacted. In fact when I handed in my written app for renewal with references listed, they typed it into MIRCS and omitted the references completely.
