We had a class of 7 on a cold, wet, rainy Winter day - 5 male and 2 female, including a Father/Daughter pair. The format was a civilian adaptation of military Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3) presented by slides, discussion, demonstration and drills. Matt was the main trainer with Ben adding application and experience throughout.

The course was comprehensive, focusing on pre-hospital trauma care - Care Under Fire (or dangerous conditions like roadway accidents, industrial accidents, etc.), Tactical Field Care (once removed from danger) and Tactical Evacuation Care (necessary preparation/movement to collection/treatment/evacuation by EMT/Ambulance). As explained, the learning from decades at war has refined civilian applications of trauma care, with the Boston Marathon Bombing being the wake-up call for application on US soil. Mass shootings are a sensationalized, yet infrequent, application but trauma by assault and accident are the lion’s share of day-to-day applications.

We were introduced to the continuum of care via the MARCH acronym (Massive Hemorrhage/Movement, Airway, Respiration/Responsiveness, Circulation, Head/Hypothermia), and the assessment and urgent treatment of MAR followed by CH when out of the immediate danger situation. Tourniquet application was a big part of training with snap-drills (Left Arm! Right Leg!) throughout the day. Selection of medical supplies (tourniquets, hemostatic bandages, compression bandages, etc. were discussed, demonstrated and drilled. Drills progressed throughout the day to simulated scenarios where the class was split 4/3, 3/4, 2/5, etc. into victims and responders to assess, treat, collect/move victims as a team. By mid-day we all understood when a tourniquet was tight enough - if it didn’t hurt and you could actually hobble on a leg, it needed another crank.

Concealed Carry and responsible firearms ownership are an individual and societal benefit in reduction of crime, and TC3/Stop-the-Bleed training is a means to prevent needless loss of life from assault/accident. Put such training on your To-Do list, watch this Onsight Firearms Training forum for opportunities and look for other training options. Just like making holes, plugging holes is a perishable skill that needs to be practiced and refreshed. Add a Trauma Kit to your range bag, home, car and EDC gun, spare mags, flashlight, knife.

This is our first opportunity to work with Ben and Onsite Firearms Training. Credit where credit is due, not only did the students enjoy this class, in addition they appreciated the professional way Ben handles his business. From my perspective as the host, Ben and OFT dotted every "I" and crossed every "T" timely and professionally.

Matt, the trainer for this class had not only impressive credentials but he backed them up teaching the class.
"Walked the Walk" as they say. Excellent presentation.

I am looking forward to working with Ben and OFT in the future.

Thank You Ben !

Thanks guys!!! Its amazing to see people take these kinds of classes. Normally if there's no shooting, people tend to think the class isn't important. I would say THIS class is far more important than any shooting class. You are more likely to use your med kit than you are to use your gun.
I just hope those who decided not to attend never have to use the knowledge the chose to not learn!
