The 35-year-old suspect was arrested for murder and armed robbery

A Louisiana police officer providing security at a high school basketball game in New Orleans was shot and killed following a mask-related dispute, authorities said, and a suspect was immediately taken into custody.

Tulane University Police Officer Martinus Mitchum was shot Friday while working at George Washington Carver High School in the 3000 block of Higgins Boulevard, the New Orleans Police Department said.

John Shallerhorn, 35, was booked early Saturday for armed robbery and first-degree murder of a policeman, Fox 8 reported, citing Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office jail records.

After arriving at the high school Friday, Shallerhorn allegedly robbed a 39-year-old man sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot, raising his shirt to brandish a firearm and demanding the victim's medallion chain, police said.

The victim handed the chain to Shallerhorn, who then attempted to enter the school but was stopped for not wearing a mask.

Old habits never die.

These clowns are still stealing shiny trinkets.

Right and what is the supreme law of the land?? The constitution and it doesn't say jack in the second amendment about legally binding signage
You're cute. Rights are not absolute, they have responsibilities that come with them. Such as respecting others.

Look, that is New Orleans. The shooter had literally just robbed someone and went around like nothing happened. Why he shot the cop, who knows. Probably the same reason for the shooting at the gun club. That city is eating itself from within. The only thing that will ever get it back under control is police action that will never pass muster legally.

I agree with you, cops shouldn't be wasting their time enforcing mask mandates but instead cracking skulls of gangbangers and drug dealers.

Do they still do the 60 day murder there? Kill someone the cops hold you for 60 days no evidence they release you.

Eh I was kinda on your side most of that crap would go away if you legalized drugs and didn't make it so profitable to sell them.

Sounds like the mask angle was incidental (at best) to the whole situation but the headline is trying to make it sound like this was some kind of mask resistance killing.

"Records show that Shallerhorn was previously arrested in August 2019 for alleged indecent behavior with a juvenile, but the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office refused that charge in November 2019."

Bet the Orleans Parish DA thought to himself, if Obama had a son

Yes because all gun laws are infringements, enforcing those laws makes you a traitor.

Don't get me wrong the suspect seems like a dirt bag, but the cop gets no sympothy.
He was an off duty Tulane University campus cop working at a high school event. That makes him a security guard.
