    O man this blows ...

Walk on the wild side is one of the first songs I learned on bass .
And I used to play bass for this lesbian that sung sweat jane every Tuesday night at a coffee shop for like a month.

I suppose, i just remember walking over to him sitting at this little card table and signing stuff. My friend and I were huge fans and we just towered over him, even when he stood up. He looked genuinely scared but yeah, he had been through a lot i guess.

If you grew up in the Mob/Civil Rights/Women's Lib/Anti-War 1960's Freeport, LI, you'd understand the White Male paranoia. (saw my first "Mafia" hit 2 doors down from my childhood LI invention suburban home when I was 5, in 1968. 5 people in one house erased by a "sniper" 75 yards across the street on the LIRR raised Freeport tracks. Second, third, fourth, fifth come out to see what the "Pop" was, and find out. ) Sucked for me, because at 5 years old, I was the "mayor" of that neighborhood, and that house was almost guaranteed for a plate of cookies and a cup of hot chocolate and some good conversation at my level when ever I knocked on the door randomly for a social visit....

Different song, I think. Reed's version was on his "Growing up in Public" album. from the sample of Gilley's song I found, I believe it's a different song. They were out about the same time, it appears.
