CT has been debating this bill for two years now. The legislature wanted to install some draconian requirements on anyone who doesn't report a stolen or lost firearm. First of all, no person in their right mind would NOT report a stolen firearm.....at least no one I know. But, if it did happen and you didnt' discover it within 72 hours, you were going to be held liable even though you were the victim. In addition, any guy who did a straw purchase and sold the guns to a gangbanger.....but...reported the guns stolen (since he sold the darned things) would be exempted from procecution having followed the law. There were a lot of bad things in this bill.

Well, it failed to be called today and is effectively dead. They didn't have the votes to get it passed....and that's saying something! Connecticut Dems have a SUPER MAJORITY and can pass anything they want. The pressure was put on them, however, by active collectors and shooters alike and the legislators folded. Maybe it'll be resurrected sometime in the future but at least today, it's a win for us!

"Yesterday, Thursday May 17, SB 903 AN ACT CONCERNING LOST OR STOLEN FIREARMS AND ILLEGAL FIREARMS TRAFFICKING was on the Committee on Public Safety and Security Agenda. The Committee Chairpersons did not call the bill and the minutes read "No action taken". Our vote count of the Committee indicated we had the votes to defeat the bill. Sources indicate our opposition also had an accurate vote count and they requested the bill not be called to avoid a publicized loss. Much of our positive vote count is due directly to YOUR communicating with both your own Rep/Senator and Committee members. The bill is now effectively DEAD, but nothing is truly Dead until midnight June 6. We expect the bill to be amended on some other bill before the end of the session. We urge you to keep communicating with legislators and particularly give a Thank You to members of the Committee on Public Safety and Security for killing this outrageous bill that only affects we law-abiding gunowners."
