I have an old Savage model 23-C with a Lyman 42SS peep sight. I need to make some windage and elevation adjustments to sight the rifle-in. Before I start turning screws to see what happens, having access to an instruction sheet (or leverage someone's know-how) could save me time and ensure I make the adjustments and settings correctly. I have done a bit of google searches and have made requests to Lyman and Savage w/o luck (yet). The sight condition is the way it was purchased, so the previous owner was rather hard on the screws...and I don't want to do anymore damage to them. I bought this firearm in the 70s and just getting around to shooting it -- so, I imagine the screws have not been turned in 50 or more years. It shoots consistent groups, just need to move it up and over a bit.

looks like you flip the lock bar for elevation and loosen the screw for windage.
You may beefit from a new sight with knobs that adjust...

the lever should unlock the elevation slide the small screw left and forward will adjust the elevation up and down. the lines on the side are aprox 1/4 MOA.
The larger screw on top when loosened will allow the peep sight to move left and right. if there are any lines on the front or rear of the peep they are also aprox 1/4 moa.
That's a old sight and the screws are pretty ruff.
I think a lyman 48Y will fit that nice.......its just finding one...

mac1911: Thanks for the "How To".
I was stumped by the lever.

I found this ebook on google books with a insightful chapter on sights by model, their graduations, and MOA.
The American Rifle: A Treatise, a Text Book, and a Book of Practical ...

In doing web searches, the 42SS and 48Y have been sold via auctions in the past, and have just seen screws too. The 48Y $$$ and I did read it will work with the Savage 23 series with existing screwholes.
