Hey all - I just moved down to Dartmouth, MA and am looking for a new range/club. Would like something with an indoor pistol range (prefer 24 hour access, but not mandatory) and a good outdoor range for the long guns. Anyone have any recommendations - I know there are some nearby, but I dont know any members and havent checked them out...

Thanks!

There is nothing I know of in the greater New Bedford area that has both indoor and outdoor ranges. Fall River Rod and Gun (actually in Westport) did but their pistol house has been closed for a while and I don't know if it will reopen. Their gallery pistol team is shooting out of Taunton for now. As Keyman says I think they are the closest that has both. There are a couple of outdoor ranges in Dartmouth and indoor ranges in New Bedford and Acushnet.

I belong to Taunton myself and I love it. The new indoor is 13 or 14 bays and the old indoor in 7 or 8 bays. The old section is being torn down and rebuilt but as of a couple weeks ago they were still trying to find a contractor who is interested. The outdoor has 2-50 yard ranges 2-100 yard ranges a 200 yard a 300 yard a black powder and archery and a trap area that are open until the posted sun down times and they open at 9am (10 am on Sunday)

Thanks for all the replies and info

I've heard good things about Taunton as well. Does anyone know if they are accepting new members? Do you have to be sponsored?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Rod & Gun Club of New Bedford. They've got indoor and outdoor ranges, along with a bunch of action shooting pits. They are in North Dartmouth.

I love shooting their matches, I am thinking about joining there myself.

I belong to Sippican in Rochester, nice quite club that doesn't require too much from it's members.

Yeah, it does look good but on the website it says their indoor pistol house is only open on Monday nights. I need more late night access because I work a lot... looks like Taunton is my best option.

They are accepting new members. The application has a place to list a sponsor, but I don't know if it is strictly required. When I joined, I stopped by for an app, met someone who showed me around, handed me the app and told me to list him as my sponsor. He turned out to be the president of the club, so it's pretty easy-going there.

I'm hoping to get to the indoor range this weekend, but my schedule is still up in the air. I'll PM you if I'm going and I'll show you around.

There are a few indoor ranges that allow pistol. Acushnet and New Bedford (Bolton street) have them but with restrictions.

Myself I shoot at Sippican in Rochester. Right now are cut off time for shooting is 7pm. It changes throughout the year depending on sunset.

Does Sippican also have action pits? I am thinking about joining a new club, and that would be important. Basically I want to be able to practice drawing and shooting pistol from 5yds - 25yds among other things. I am in Plymouth, so both of these are potentially in my target area.

Call and leave a message for Eric he's the club president. I called and he also sponsored me. They are still accepting members for a short time as they are nearing either 2000 or 2500 members I'm actually shooting tonight if your free swing by just send me a PM and I'll give you my cell to call when your there. I'll show you around. I should be there from about 7pm till 9pm

No action pits, just basic ranges. I do practice drawing from the holster and other pistol drills on the pistol range though. I think it is 25 yards.

Mansfield Fish has a 50 and 100 yard outdoor.

This past Sunday there was talk at Sippican of doing these again: http://www.northeastshooters.com/vb...a-test-run-on-military-rifle-shoots-(pics-up)

So far the next one is being discussed for the 3rd Sunday in June. I'll update the thread in the surplus section a few weeks before the event if everything is a go. If you have a rifle that served in the military in any country at any point in history, you're welcome to bring it, join in, and check out Sippican for a small fee that day.

I was a member of Easton and never fired one round. Stupid mag capacity rules etc.

Live and learn.

just adding anouther vote for taunton... 24/7 indor ranges and never seen more then 4 people there (unless its a meeting or work party day)

Holbrook Sportsman's club is a great place as well. 2 24/7 indoor ranges, one for 22 pistol or rifle, the other for lager caliber handgun. Trap shooting, bowling pin shoots monthly, hunter pistol steel shoots every month, CMP shoots monthly, junior league, pistol team ,rifle team, pin and plate shoots monthly. 25 yard outdoor plinking range, 100/200 yard range with a warm up house, 20x23 ft, with TV, wood stove, etc. link to the club is in my signature line.
Also selling tickets for a raffle, In Nov they raffle one gun a day for the month using the daily number to pick the winner. Everything from AR's to M+P to Remington 1911 are being raffled. Check it out.

Taunton is a great club as well.

I am thinking of checking out Taunton myself this weekend. Being a novice I am looking to get in some good range time close to home.

Anyone know of any clubs near Walpole that to not require membership and are open to the public? I'm away at college in the South for 9 months of the year and I'm really not willing to spend $200+ dollars on dues for a club up here that I will only be able to use during the summer. I was hoping there was a place within 30-40 minutes of Walpole where I could just pay a fee every time I shoot.

I am only a pistol shooter and would prefer an indoor range if possible.

American Firearms School in North Attleboro: http://www.americanfirearmsschool.com/pages/cfHome.cfm

It is a for-profit business, not a club.

I have orientation at Taunton this Sunday - to get my key card. Anyone else getting oriented this weekend?

M1911 - AFS in Attleboro used to be more fun when it had the live fire simulation room! You can either join for the year or go there for like $20 an hour. Not sure if its still like this, but they used to let you use rifles in the pistol range as well.
