Living with someone stationed at Fort Bragg, NC?

First thing I’d verify is that he’s actually in the service. If so, his Command should ride herd on him.

There are plenty of discharged soldiers around, including some bad actors. My buddy was a JAG in XVIIIth Airborne Corps and he’s got many, many stories with tragic endings. There are at least two Dateline episodes.

I've seen more than one "shipmate" get married to "live off the economy" with that sweet tax free BAH. Most of them ended in divorce, and not good ones. The worst marriages of convenience were when they were both Coasties. No matter how many times you told them "not to dip their pen in the blue ink", they would.......

We sat her down today and I showed her the policy from the link shared above. Sounds like 2 idiot kids making idiot plans without knowing or caring for rules.
He lives in barracks. That was confirmed. It's him and another kid "who was cool with it". (Until he wasn't).
It a double edged sword. I try to talk her out of this plan means she stays with me longer. I don't say anything and I'm not doing her any justice and not helping her situation.

These two soldiers sound like absolute morons. I doubt they’ll make it 4 years before doing something stupid and getting kicked out. A lot of shit goes down in the barracks…guys bringing girls back from the bar and having sex with them, drugs, alcohol, you name it.

Clearly he is thinking with the wrong head. 2 weeks ago he drove down here (4 hour trip) with no $ for a hotel and no place to stay. We won't allow sleepovers, I have a 15 year old daughter across the hall from her, so I don't need to set that example.
They knew before he left that they were not staying here. Their thought was they were going to take a quick trip to the mountains here and sleep in the bed of his truck. They asked to borrow an air mattress. I just laughed. It was 20 degrees in the mountains that night. I think they slept in the cab of his mid 90 standard cab Toyota Tacoma. Not my problem. I just sit back and chuckle. I've done stupid shit. But I swear I wasn't this dumb when I was their age. I could go on for day with the stories Lol.

Yeah. Wow.

Do what you can, and hopefully she'll learn the rest from experience before something really disastrous happens. You're a good man.

Had an 18yo private bring a girl back to the barracks in Germany. He got caught, and the MP’s established she was 15 or 16.

”She showed me an ID that she was 18.” They found a fake ID.

I was super impressed he had the presence of mind to card her!

The legal age to have sex with an adult (over 21) in Germany is 16 and can in some cases even be as low as 14 if the age difference is not too big. The private being 18 yo could have legal sex with a 15 or 16 yo girl under German law.

But I guess for your private being on US soil in the barracks, German law didn’t apply.

Got busted with having a womack nurse living in my room for a week when I was at Bragg back in the 90s. Luckily my 1SG was cool and told me she needed to hit the road or else I'd face UCMJ if he caught her sneaking out again in the morning. Had my own room in the old barracks.

Wait.

An Army nurse? So… an officer? Was living in the crappy old ‘90s barracks with you?

…wow. If so, that might be part of why the 1SG didn’t do much. He was too busy being impressed by you.

All of the barracks will have a visitors log and will check ID to make sure she is of legal age before going in.

That said, it is the rare unit that actually has time to check the visitor's log and reconcile it with the visitor leaving. Also, 99.9 out of 100 barracks will have the exit only side doors propped open with rocks so as to bypass the CQ.

It will be super easy to sneak her into the barracks. The problem she'll run into on post is the only thing she'll be able to buy without an ID is gas and fast food from the food courts. That will get boring really quick.

Some lessons can only be learned the hard way. Just tell you niece to propose---either that or take her to the Army recruiter.

Lol. No not an officer. She was a 91C which, in those days, was an LPN. She was an E5 if I recall correctly. I was a PFC during our fling, so Top Preston may still have been impressed.

She had split with her parachute rigger husband that worked at shake out. The story I was told was that he was abusive and kicked her out of their off post apartment. This was back when I was still wet behind the ears and didnt realize that excuse was the common language of.... well whores I suppose. Met her at the Flaming Mug I believe.

Being a young, idealistic paratrooper, I assumed I was saving her and offered to share my barracks room with her until she found her own place. She was fine too which made the decision easier, probably a 15/10 on the Fayetteville scale (about a 9 on a regular scale for those not familar with Fayettenam). She was VERY APPRECIATIVE of this plan and kept me quite busy for a bit before Top discovered our arrangement. Another soldier ratted me out when he caught us in the showers. Unfortunately my latrine look out left his OP to grab a beer from his room.

Those were some fun days.

I'm glad I asked.

This was a story that needed to be told.
Oh theres a lot more to the story thats far too long to post here. Including the time her husband showed up with three of his buddies at her new apartment one morning looking to kick my ass. He was yelling "Tell pretty boy to get out here before we kick the door in" as I took up a defensive position clutching an umbrella in my underwear while she yelled at them from the bedroom window that she was calling the cops. Just another day in Fayetteville.

Literally my very first morning as a platoon leader there, I found myself dealing with a kid being transferred out of another platoon and into ours because he'd just had a threesome with his own girlfriend and his squad leader's wife. In his barracks room.

Yep. Just another day in Fayetteville.

A good friend of my son at DLI (Defense Language Institute) came back drunk one night. He was 2 weeks from his 21st bday, and just a couple months shy of finishing his Arabic language training. And he was good at the language.

Another Navy guy dropped a dime on him. And that was it. House arrest for a while and not allowed to finish Arabic. Just a couple months shy and he was kicked to the curb.

There's all kinds of shit that goes down. The trick is not getting caught.

This kid has been in a deep funk since all this happened. It's really sad, actually.

Footage and pics of the old 82nd barracks is surprisingly hard to find. Heres a vid I found on YT. Brings me back. I have no idea what weekly drama caused this lock down. Looks to be early to mid 90s. There was always some crap going on down there back then. As shitty as it was I miss those days...

It's entirely possible to have a civilian live with you in barracks. Not authorized, but possible.
Long term will create a ton of issues and increase the odds of getting caught.
From what I've seen, young ladies who enjoy extended stays in the barracks are usually not looked upon as the most virtuous.

I don't see good things in store for your niece - please talk her out of this.

What does the AA on the 82nd patch stand for?

When I was in during Nam it stood for Almost Airborne.

After Vietnam years it stood for Alcoholics Anonymous.

During the 80's it was Aryan a**h***s.

During the 90's, they had the gay porn scandals and it became Always Anal.

[rofl][rofl][rofl][rofl]

Huh?

I was there in the late '90s... did I miss out on some kind of gay porn scandal? I'm always the last to know... lol
