I wish they had given them an AR-15. That would of been a reaction id love to see

This.
Woman I know (friend of family)...an Anti. She's mid 50's, never shot (or held!) a g-g-g-gun....
Her daughter married and moved to Missouri (ironically, and no, not near Ferguson LOL). Few months ago she went to visit/meet her (first) grandchild. When we next saw her she literally couldn't WAIT to run up to me and show me pics of her with her grandson....and tell me about her son-in-law and his collection of guns. Then she showed me pics of their day together at the "range" (his back yard, which looks like it stretched out forever. Same property in MA probably over a million bucks..they paid $240k, but I'm digressing - again, I know).

She showed me pics of her wearing safety glasses and ear protection...Then the next pic was her shooting various pistols/revolvers (Sig, S/W, Glocks). Then a pump shotgun. Then the "ultimate".. the AR-15 ("Oh my god it was so easy to shoot! I hit the target every time!!...blah blah"). The last collection of pictures she showed me was the wrap-up, as they're securing the weapons in the safe area after the shoot..multiple pics of her holding the various guns AR, smiling....(kinda weird to see it, she sorta looks like Martha Coakley, actually conjured up memory of the Dukakis tank pic with Coakley instead of him)

But the look on her (normally uptight, twisted, pissed off) tinfoil/moonie face was honestly the first time I'd seen her relaxed and smiling. I swear to you she looked like she had just had the best (first??) real orgasm of her life. (Cue up Harry meeting Sally and Meg Ryan's "Yessssss!!" )

All of a sudden she's not as rabid Anti anymore (that is, unless she's in the company of OTHER ANTI'S, naturally, when her face gets all twisted up again like her pre-AR days)....I told her I'd take her to the range with me too. Converting an Anti is sometimes slow, sometimes long and painstaking, but we'll get there.

People lump them in because of the very common theme of the power of government used to impose a political and social ideology. "Liberal" has now become a fully ironic term since "the establishment" now imposes these same violence against people claiming to try to impose all of the "progressive" ideals espoused by "liberals" in the 1960's and 70's.

In many (all of those you list), that political and social ideology is outwardly described the same as well - socialism.

In truth, that's just lipstick on the pig of "give your power, wealth and liberty to me and I will make it all better".

Calling one's self "liberal" at this point if your ideology matches up with that advertised by politicians using that label is itself "gross ignorance of history".

The "establishment" has embraced all of the socialist, environmentalist (the church, not the ethics), redistribution of wealth, intolerance of those who disagree with your "liberalism", etc... The trouble is that the inevitable result is a police state.

Mao, Lenin, Stalin, Castro, etc... were not failures of socialism/communism, they were the inevitable outcome of centralized power and vilification of individual liberties and self-ownership.

"Let's try socialism again, this time with 50% less genocide and tyranny" doesn't fly very far, but I agree labels can be problematic when progressives are always busy redefining words. [smile]

Another way to say it: "progressives" (what today's liberals really are), socialists and communists are really just points on a spectrum defined by using government power to control behavior of individuals. Degree matters so I don't think it's right to equate Obama or FDR with Stalin, but that doesn't mean we're heading in the right direction by electing Obama.

My wife doesn't really like shooting center fire hand guns (except for a Sig X5) but I handed her my AR and she thought it was great. She shot it well and liked the low recoil.
