They are after the high school mascot at Braintree High School now. They have tried in the past but have a pretty good lead on their petition. If you would consider signing to keep the Wamp as Braintree mascot i'd appreciate it. - Thanks in advance. Charlie

The Braintree Megaminds! I mean, it seems fitting. Not that much different. Slightly different grumpy face, and a brain behind it.

If you were to swap out the hat to a tricorn, this would be the modern Patriots logo. Looks innocent enough. I could see a potential beef over the Cleveland Indians logo with the exaggerated red-face, but this is rather innocuous. If anything, it looks like a respectful rendering. And it appears to be culturally relevant for Braintree, as the Wampanoag tribe occupied what is now the South Shore/cape region. Can't something be a tasteful homage and not racist or cultural appropriation?

Don't be a Don Quixote, Charlie. Just let it go. All this wasted effort over symbols.

Thanks

BU wants to rename their imaginary mascot, a Boston Terrier named "Rhett". Evidently the image of an imaginary dog which happens to have the same name as a fictional slave owner is just too painful to bear.

I’ve always found it hysterical when they go after school mascots.
No one tell them, but the Massachusetts state flag is a Native American

I guess someone told them:

Replacing state flag, seal on Senate agenda

ROLF. Now they’re going to figure out Massachusetts is the name of their tribe. It will never end

And not to be left out of the current bout of rampant stupidity, NYC will likely be changing their official seal, because it has both an indian in a loincloth and a sailor with a rope:

Yes, there's an article that goes with this, but I refuse to post NYT links here.

aren't they also trying to change the state flag? which would change all the seals on UMass....you'd think there would be bigger issues to focus on

Sorry should have looked up as someone posted a link.

Winchester school committee voted this week to change the name “Sachems.” New name TBD.

If you didn’t know, “Sachem” is an Indian word that means “chief,” and is very very offensive, according to legions of high school girls and moms who voluntarily chose to live in a town that’s 98% white.

How deluded to have a bunch of white people running around defending their subjugation of a culture while actual Native Americans are saying that they find it tasteless. Now ignore my link to additional information and cry "cancel culture" into your keyboard:

George. Nope.
Thomas? YEahno.
Abraham??? Hmmm. Too close to slavery even if an opponent. Probably not.
Lyndon??? Oh wait. Maybe. He got some pretty good civil rights legislation passed after JFK was killed. But didn't he refer to them as N-words, like, forever?? Nah.
Bowser?????? While not racist by itself, there was only one black Sha-Na-Na character and that's insensitive. So no.

How about Dog? Dog the Terrier.

I lumped these together. The reality is this: The sheer # of "Indians" in N/E is frightfully small. He's offended that an Indian is depicted. There isn't an Irishman in New England embarrassed by that stupid leprechaun the Celtics use. We can't have different standards for different people based on how bad we feel about them. That's racism.

I did find stuff on Faries Gray. He's anti-Casino. So I'm liking him for that. But he seems like one of those "you all need to get off of our land" type people.
