I have 50 pieces of primed .44 Mag Brass that were included as part of a purchase
I made. I have no idea what primer is in there, a regular or magnum primer. Will
it make any difference if I am loading these with 6.5gr of Win231 shooting a 240SWC?

Thanks,

TBP

I don't think that it will make any difference with your load of 6.5grs of W231 in 44mag.

I found this on Handloaders.com..

JSP 6.5 gr WW231 749 fps Win LP

Whether you need a magnum or regular primer is dictated by the powder and not the caliber. Magnum primers work best with slower ball powders like W296, H110, etc.

Magnum primers will increase pressure slightly over regular primers so you'll want to avoid using them when you load near-max charges of faster burning powders. With 6.5 grains of 231, you're nowhere near the max of 11 so you'll be fine regardless of which primer is in the case.
