Landslide Mumbles

Random police searches of cars crossing into the state to intercept illegal weapons.

Thats just frightening.. that has got to be the most ridiculous suggestion i have ever heard..
Why dont we just build a 15 ft stone wall to encompass the state with guard towers, dogs and searchlights. Then mumbles can get us all numbered tattoos for our wrists and we can all be in by 6pm curfew..

That will be next year.

See my reply in the thread about "No More Handguns in the City by the Bay."

Hi Derek,

Well the latest Menino proposal doesn't surprise me one bit. A handgun summit would be the perfect excuse for some politicians to get together, what a great publicity stunt and photo op ! Since it would be for the children (gun control usually is, afterall) I am sure that it would be a real winner with the general population. I wonder which way our Governor would go on this, seeing how he is courting the Red States in a presidential bid.

Unfortunately there is some historical precedence for this. For many years both California and Arizona maintained "Agricultural Inspection Stations" on their borders, the objectives were to keep out plants that might harm the agriculture of either state. These were manned 24/7 and were like turnpike toll booths, and the personnel who manned them wore para-military uniforms, although I don't recall that they were armed. These inspection stations finally went away in the 1970's, but living in Yuma, Arizona right on the Arizona-California border, I remember them quite well. Now back in the 1930's there real purpose was to discourage Okies (dust bowl refugess from Oklahoma) and other persons deemed undesirable from entering the state.

You will recall too, that in this state up until the late 80's and passage of Federal Law which defined how one could transport firearms interstate (thank you R.R. wherever you are !) there used to be signs posted at the state borders warning people of the Mass Gun Law.

Now before anybody thinks that Mumbles is way out there, I think that if such a proposal was packaged to spin to the public not only as a child saving measure, but as an anti-terrorist measure the public just might swallow it.

This is saddening news, but I really think the next couple of years are going to be tough for us.

Regards,

Mark

Menino has a mandate in Boston only because Hennigan was a ridiculously worse alternative.

Are there numbers on how often gang members in Boston are collared on gun-violations only to have the charges thrown out during plea-bargaining? Shouldn't that be investigated before we pull more cops off the beat to guard us against New Hampshire?

He's bluffing with this stuff: pushing it out onto the table so that it can be thrown out later, after there are some concessions from the gun industry and GOAL.

Too True Mark... Too True..... :(

When the summit is announced, we should all go attend outside with signs and such.
