Took an old friend to the range for the first time in a few years. Edit- think I brought this to one of the NES shoots but didn't fire it- 22LR no fun vs. car. Thanks to the helpful NES folks I found a couple types of match ammo to feed it for a trip to the range:

This was my first build, finished almost 20 years ago. It started as a stainless schutzen style 10/22, though only the receiver is Ruger now. Barrel is a fluted Volquartsen with a permanent comp. Looks like they still make a similar barrel. Internals such as the sear and hammer are also Volquartsen. I can't remember who made the stock- I was thinking Turner but they may have never made these. All the parts were ordered via catalog & phone, before one could find such stuff on the web.

No- LOL, I did not shoot my CMP case. I peeled off my target sticker once I had it dialed in with the right ammo and was able to make a nice group when the wind was not too bad. .292" at 50 yd, sandbags, cheap Bushnell scope.

All of my first shots dropped a bit, some more than others. Bottom shot on the above sticker was the first. I had some other groups that were tighter except for the first shot 'flyer'. I'm thinking the first round is not loading as tightly as the following rounds loaded via semi-auto. Perhaps I just need to clean it a little as it hasn't been touched in a long time. Also I'm thinking it could be that a full mag (stock 10 rnd) might be a bit tight and resists loading the first round a little. My club has a 22LR 10 round benchrest match coming up, so I'll play around a little to see if I can cure the flyer. Worst case, I can load two mags with 6 rounds each and call a fouling shot before each 5 of 10 shots for record.
