I've been looking for a way to mount a bipod on a Keymod rail without bulking it up and I came across this, IWC Keymod Harris Bipod Mount

I know I can do Keymod > picatinny > picatinny bipod swivel but then before you know it, you end up with something that looks like this

Less is more in this case, I want the minimal needed to mount a bipod and this looks like it will work. The amazon reviews look good with the exception of one guy who can't run a pair of snap ring pliers. Has anyone tried this or is running one? What are your thoughts?

I used the Noveske bipod stud when the NSR first came out. Same idea, just from Noveske and it was originally designed for a Troy rail.

I happened to have one around and tried it out. It worked perfectly in the larger end of the keymod slots. I posted about it a while back on M4C. I will see if I can find the post to show what it looks like.

Here's a link the the Noveske product, IWC makes good products, so it should be good.

Here's my post with a couple pictures. It worked well for me with a little loctite and a Harris Bipod. Solid and low profile on the NSR rail.

What rail are you considering?

The build is done and the rail is a Ranier Arms Switch 15.5 keymod. - http://www.rainierarms.com/rainier-arms-switch-308-rail-15-5

Thanks for the input and pictures!

Point and Kevin, thanks for the links and info. Those look rock solid and one step less than keymod > Picatinny > swivel stud. I think I am going to try the minimal approach based on 2cnd's input and pics. Since it's keymod I'll try the most lightweight, minimal attachment. I can't see this failing unless there isn't enough material on the lip, as it sandwiches the keymod hole between this and the bipod. It just sucks that with that part is that it cost $8 on amazon with $6 to ship. Anyone else need one since I'm going to be paying the shipping anyways?

Did you guys have to remove the handguard to install this?...I'm thinking of picking one up
I did not need to remove the handguard. Just slide the back plate/nut in place then twist in the stud with a little blue loctite ... couple minutes tops. Maybe a few more minutes if you didn't want the stud near the end of the rail and had to move it further down the rail.

thanks...i've just never seen one of these apart...so the noveske one has 3 parts?...a back plate, the stud that threads into the back plate and a "snap ring" for the outside of the rail or are the stud and snap ring 1 piece?...i was just looking at that first photo by OP and i didn't think i could get something like that between the barrel and the rail but my rail/barrel setup looks similar to yours so i figured i'd ask so i can use the swivel setup on my bipod...thanks again

The Noveske is 3 parts, but it is a back plate, a washer-like part, and the stud (the IWC works a little different). The back plate is flat on one side. For the Noveske NSR rail, I put the flat side against the inside of the rail. The washer is polymer of some sort and was originally designed for the Troy TRX rail, but works perfect for the larger end of a keymod slot. Then the threaded stud just threads in like you would expect. I would think this set up would work well for other rails as well, like the BCM KMR.

There is no snap ring for the Noveske bipod part, unless the design has changed. Looking at Noveske's site, you can sort of see the 3 parts (http://www.shopnoveske.com/products/trx-sling-stud-bi-pod-mount). The back plate has the flat away from the bipod stud, I used it with the flat part toward the bipod stud.

Hope this helps.

thanks again...sounds like that is the way to go...i'll be ordering the noveske one tonight

Sorry, I haven't done anything with mine after ordering it. I thought that I would be able to put the stud inside the rail and through the hole, then put the clip on and sandwich all that with the bipod. In the end, I might not even use that. I am hoping that the wife comes through with an Atlas bipod for my bday, that is picatinny only..
