Just moved to MA from RI..

Not to put too fine a point on it, but your range sucks.

The rules at my range are pretty simple. Pistols only on the pistol ranges, rifles only on the rifle ranges, all shots stay within the berms, no handling of firearms during a called "cold range", no shooting after/while imbibing alcoholic beverages. I think that's the gist of them.

If you're attending a match or event - additional rules will be in effect.

Range rules has nothing to do with nosey neighbors at the range. I heard from another person at a range in SE Mass that he had been questioned a couple times about the legality of what he was shooting.

If you join a club where people comment on the legality of your guns, tell them to f*ck off and find a better club.

I was at Harvard and some dude who I later found out was an NES'errr asked me about my bakelite E German 74 mags.. He asked what they were and I told him exactly what they were, thought he was just curious about what they were made out of and the history, apparently he was looking out for my own best interest.. "Are you sure those are legal to own here?" Like he already made up his mind and this was some sort of rhetorical question flexing his knowledge of MA laws...

Not only are there Fudds, there are complete idiots at decent clubs that can't mind their own business and also have no idea there was even a E and W Germany at one time and when they actually existed lol

I mean why even GAF? If I seen someone with an "illegal" machine gun that I liked, my first question is can I shoot it.

Wish I could say the same, but on separate occasions I’ve heard….Isn’t that illegal?(in regards to an pre 94 AR w/adjustable stock), don’t you need an NFA stamp for that? (14.5” barrel with a permanently attached comp that brings it well over the minimum) and how old are those magazines?(in regards to obviously legal Preban banana lip butter creek 10/22 mags).

And all my stuff is 100% legal under any reading of the law. I don’t know how the conversations would have gone if they weren’t.

You need to choose range times when nobody else is around. Simple.

We really have to establish a down vote. I was never here when you had them, but it would make your life a lot easier.

It was kind of a pain. IIRC, you had to justify it/explain it each time you downvoted someone.

Just got everything transfered over and scheduling a class for my ltc..I have a few things that are now not legal in MA but were legal in RI when i bought them...ie mags and firearms that I bought in RI that were legal at the time. I just don't want to join a club in MA now and catch hell if I show up to a range with one of these things. Thanks all!
Do you also worry about a club member checking your driving license, registration and inspection sticker?

Way more entertaining to read the comments ripping into each other. Plus it weeds out the weak.

What I mean is that there weren't many downvotes because it was a PITA to do a downvote. You had to REALLY dislike the person.

Nobody asks those questions at my range. The rules ate simple and if you’re not breaking them nobody cares what you’re doing. It’s the “culture “ of the range. .

Even if you’re your own range, people are gonna come out there and f*** with you…. maybe that’s just a New England thing. On occasion you got somebody who’s willing to walk towards gunfire to give you a hard time….. that’s basically when I’m throwing people the f*** out of my place went for some random person to do it. You know they’re sick in the head

That’s a bold move to walk onto someone’s private property towards the sound of gunfire. They should go train Uvalde PD.

I never understood this. People need to mind thier own business. Even if it was illegal, what are you going to do, call the cops? Bitch to the club?

It was called neg rep and if you wanted to neg rep someone twice, you first had to rep a certain number of people. So you could measure butt hurt by how many neg reps you received in a row from one person.

It was AWESOME!

Thanks for what? You didn’t ask a question. You just made a statement. Thanks for the update on your move or whatever.

Do you live in RI or Mass ?

The discussion is about people snjffing around your bench at the range, not about range rules.

I have asked people about their cool guns, I meant it as, “that’s cool! Does that require SBR paperwork?”

I hope it didn’t come across as “you’re not supposed to have that” or anything like that.

yeah... tone and some minor word changes can make a huge difference...

"I didn't know those were legal in MA" vs "Are you sure those are legal in MA?"

oK. You moved to a state with looser gun laws, so the chances of getting asked at the range if what you have is legal are pretty low.

The op moved from RI to Mass .
Agreed. My original statement was that his range sucks. I stand by that.

I belonged to two ranges in CT and shot at a number of others including some in RI and MA.

Nobody ever bothered me at any of them.

It was basically a "video game" of a chat forum but with armaments. Newbs had little sling shots. Then they'd get upgraded to a .38 revolver, etc until you reached @Admin with his hip holstered RPG.

These threads always bum me out, because I’m reminded about how great RI was on guns up until 2 years ago when a middle of the night deal took place for a capacity ban. This happened right as I was house shopping there.

f*** you, Dan McKee.

yeah it’s possible I read the intentions of one or more of the interactions wrong.

In the context of this thread though, with the long gone OPs concern about the felonies he’s committed or anyone who is actually concerned they have super illegal killy machine it’s best to get your stuff in order before going to the range so you can educate the asker…or alternatively have enough gumption to tell anyone who asks to go pound sand…I’ve found both approaches to be effective.

Next step is for NH and ME to fall in line and then we have the full NY and New England sweep on 'gunsense'.

I always assume that someone's cool stuff is legal, because
1) I don't know all the circumstances, and
2) it's none of my f***ing business if someone else breaks an idiotic law.

When I know something is illegal, I keep my mouth shut. e.g.: the obviously post-ban 33 round happy-sticks in possession of someone who I know is not a dealer.

I hope I never came across as scolding or judging or (far worse) a tattletale.
