Hey everyone, I'm looking for a new IWB holster for my Glock 23. I currently have a cheap (nothing against the company) Uncle Mikes size 15 holster. I need something that will conceal the pistol well, for everyday carry. My current holster is ok, it feels comfortable then it doesn't. What do you guys and gals recommend?

Does it need to be tuckable? Leather/kydex/hybrid? Price? How Long you willing to wait? Carry position? Adjustable cant neccesary? Clips/straps and how many connection points on belt?

... Oh ya and Boxer,Briefs, or Commando?

I love my comp-tac ctac for my 229, very comfortable, also have a summer special for my 226, both sizable guns both concealed comfortably, only ctac is tuck able. With your carry piece either of these would be no brainers IMO.

I use a Crossbreed and a good reinforced comp-tac belt for a P229, and it disappears. If you are wearing an undershirt you can't feel it at all, though it is still perfectly comfortable without one. Get the combat cut, I ended up doing it myself, the draw is much cleaner now, and there is no noticeable difference in comfort.

If you definitely want an IWB, then I would also recommend the Crossbreed holsters. I have a MiniTuck for my PPS and it's very comfortable. I also just got a Desantis belt style thumbreak holster for my S&W 1911 and it's also very comfy. The on benefit to the belt mount is that it doesn't make your pants tight as hell. If you go with an IWB then keep in mind that your pants need to be at least 1"-2" larger in the waist than normal.

Whats the difference between holsters where the gun sits straight up and down or where it cants forward?

Depends on where on your waist you are carrying it. Canted forward will conceal and draw better if it is at 3:00 or 4:00 on your waist if 12:00 is your belly button. Canted forward is awkward to draw at a 2:00 position though so straight up make more sense there.

Another vote for Crossbreed. Wearing it for a week straight now and love it. I wear it around 3:30ish with an M&Pc. I didn't adjust the cant, just moved the clips up to get a deaper concealment. It did take 6 weeks for delivery. Like Wiskie762 said well worth the wait.

On the Minotaur MTAC Holster order page of the Comp-tac website it gives me the choice of

M&P 9/40/357
M&P 9/40/45 Slide
M&P 9L

And

Belt Width of 1.25", 1.5" and 1.75"

Any suggestions of what to choose?

ya, that was kind of an obvious question! I didn't know if I needed to buy a dedicated thick gun belt or if my normal belt would hold it in position. I guess I would want the 1.75" just to be able to better fit any belt I end up using in the future?

You need a real gun belt. Don't carry a gun using your typical, floppy belt.

No. Decide on what belt width you are going to buy and get that. You want the belt width and holster loops to match. Slop in the loops will let the holster move around when you try to draw, which is not good.

I typically wear a 1.5" belt which is pretty wide, and about as big as you can fit in typical pants.

I have the MTAC with the 9/40/45 slide option. IMNSHO, this is the way to go. The Slide is an open bottom Kydex so you are not limited by barrel length. This means you could carry the 9, 9c, 40, 40c, and 45 in the same holster without changing a thing. I routinely carry my M&P 45 in this but my EDC is a M&P9c.

The Beltman is a great source for belts. I bought two from him (black and brown and they both arrived less than 2 weeks after ordering) and love them. I have the 1.5" since its all but guaranteed to fit through the belt loops of most pants.

To the OP, Crossbreeds are great holsters as well but what moved me to get a Comp-Tac was the fact that the Kydex on the MTAC is replaceable. While I don't think its practical to change it every day, if I moved from my current carry gun to another make, I could replace just the Kydex without having to spend the big bucks on a whole new holster.

Thanks TWTommers for explaining the slide option. I had no idea what that meant. I like the idea that I can use it for other types of guns and that I can change out the Kydex. How comfy is it to wear? Does any part of the gun touch yorour side or is it all protected by the leather? I will check out The Beltman also.

on the belt did you go 5 holes 1' apart or 7 holes 3/4" apart?

I find it very comfortable to wear. I don't have issues sitting or driving at all. The bottom portion of the grip can touch me but its typically not an issue as that portion is tipped away from the body a bit. I've found that I do prefer to wear a t-shirt under my shirt when I wear it though as I find the leather a little irritating against my skin. That's not specific to the holster though, I don't like phones or knife pouches against my skin either.
I went 5 hole on the belt and haven't had any issues. When I ordered from the beltman I got one of his readily available black belts and then ordered a custom brown belt so I was able to start using one right away.

What clips did you go with, the c clips or standard clips? I like the way the C clips help in concealment.

I know this is a redundant question but do any of you guys use off the shelf belts or actual gun belts?

Regular clips. They support the holster/gun weight better on the belt. No one is going to make you because of the clips. It's really only an issue at all when you carry with your shirt tucked in around the holster/gun. If you're worried then you can just wear a black belt to match the black clips.

Normal belts just don't do it. They'll deform and they don't distribute the weight well. A good gun belt is almost a structural object when it's on and the weight from the holster spreads across it. Like carrying an extra mag, this is one of those this that hardly anyone will disagree with.

Thanks for all your help TW, I was just double checking. I am looking at the beltman now trying to figure out how to do the measuring. Your right about the clips, after I posted that I watched a youtube review of it and realized that with a shirt tucked out, no one would notice.

Thanks Paul. I am really leaning toward the MTAC. The Answer is a little more than I would like to spend.
