How much more to complete typically? Can you use other USGI parts to round it out?
How sacrilegious would it be to make it take 308 box magazines?

depends on your source of parts and how long you want to take to find them.
As for converting it to mag fed why not. Although they are out there right now for about $1200 I don't know what it would cost to convert.

Not sacrilegious at all. The Italians invented the bm59e conversion for that very reason. The kits are cheaper now than they have been in the past. @DarthRevan - send me your email if you want more info - they are m1 garand parts compatible.
