I don't have one.
I need one.
I like the way this one looks.
Opinions, thanks.

I've never really heard anything "bad" about the mossy 930. Not sure id spend just shy of $1k on it used though but that's for you to decide. I see them online at big box stores brand new for $970.

Is this a good shotgun?
My sample of one (a Jerry Miculek version) didn't run well with birdshot.

It was reliable with 00B and slugs, but not being able to use low cost practice ammo was the reason I got rid of it.

Depending on what you want the shotgun for, this should be one of your last ctritera.

Nothing wrong with it. Mosberg makes excellent combat shotguns, but due to the location of their safety I prefer the non-pistol grip variety.
This would be a dealbreaker for me.

Tang mounted safeties are awesome, but almost unusable in a practical sense with pistol grips.

Agree that the safety being on the tang is a no-go for me as well. The fit and finish on a Mossberg are poor. Prob on par with Remington right before the bankruptcy. They're an excellent gun to go bang around in the woods chasing game with. You don't care if you scratch or ding it up.

Mine works great with birdshot up to slugs.
The ergonomics are good, I avoided the pistol grip version on advice of an LE buddy.
Better access to the safety.

ok, so consensus is, for that price I can do better.
Not too concerned about price however, don't care about paying a home town premium.
I was just looking and this caught my eye.
I <heart> tactical shotguns.
I've had a hard on for a Benelli for some time too, maybe I'll go that route.

940 is a vast improvement on the 930 and not much more money. Price for a 930 as listed is definitely high with the 940 out and nearly the same price. For just a few (hundred) dollars more you can get a 1301 and be even better off.

1301 is almost a Benelli (better in some ways) at a drastically lower price. If you’re in for $1K, get in for $1300 and get the Beretta. Benelli is going to be closer to $2K, and while I want one, not sure I can justify it.

But now there’s the Beretta A300 Ultima patrol which is cheaper than the 1301 and a direct competitor to the 940.

Lots of people love the 1301.

I had an older 930. Hated it, sold it and bought a m2.

Several years later I bought another benelli (ethos sport).

No regrets. I’m happy with my choices.

Alex at minuteman is solid. One of my go to mill guys.

ETA: I almost came in last with the above 930 in a 3 gun match as it gave me sooooo much trouble.

The TFB reviews have me considering selling a few unused pistols to get the 1301…

My opinion: Look for a good 1100 from the 80s and throw an 18" barrel and Mesa Tactical stock on it and still come in at or under $1000

I got one for $450. Mesa Tactical stock was less than $200 and I got a used but good condition barrel off eBay for $100.

Highly recommend. Light, fast, reliable. It’s my first semi-auto and I’m in love.

Also, as others have said a tang safety with a pistol grip is not great. Keep the standard grip and up the capacity to 7. With a light gun a pistol grip doesn’t add much more than weight.

Lots of love for the 1301. So it seems solid.

I looked at one (1301 tactical) but thought it was just another me too gun. At the time the M2 seemed like the more serious 3-gun/tactical shotgun, gun.

Prices at the time 4-5 years ago were pretty close.

Only issue I had with my 930 was low recoil shot would make it choke. It ate everything else. I can’t shit on that gun. Mine runs great for me.

That’s why most PD’s got rid of any old semi’s they had and purchased pump. Low power rounds including about any less lethal rounds just don’t function well in semi-auto shotguns.

I have that exact shotgun.

Works great.

Even so, I installed these aftermarket upgrades:

Added a receiver top rail and a cheap red dot (TRUGLO GOBBLE-STOPPER 30mm 3-MOA)

This is why the spaz 12 was a cool shotgun. Semi and pump all in one for this very reason

Eta: Pissed as I missed an opportunity to get one 7-8 years ago for a reasonable price

Those were pretty cool. Not sure how reliable they were, by the time I got around to wanting one they were already like unicorn pussy and people asking like 4-5K for one I think.
