The following is a direct quote from this NRA page. Can anyone speak to the truth of "Under the current system, law enforcement is notified every time a person on the [no-fly] list attempts to purchase a firearm"?

"The National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action issued the following statement on the terror watch list distortions:

"'The NRA does not want terrorists or dangerous people to have firearms, any suggestion otherwise is offensive and wrong,' said Jennifer Baker, director of public affairs. 'Under the current system, law enforcement is notified every time a person on the list attempts to purchase a firearm. Law Enforcement then makes a case by case decision on the appropriate follow-up for each circumstance.

"'The NRA’s only objective is to ensure that Americans who are wrongly on the list are afforded their constitutional right to due process. It is appalling that anti-gun politicians are exploiting the Paris terrorist attacks to push their gun-control agenda and distract from President Obama’s failed foreign policy.'"

That's what I've heard, they get notified.

Obviously the few thousand purchases were made by people who should not the list because if even one of those people used a gun in any crime we would have heard about it over the last week or two. There are 8 yr old white cub scouts from NJ on the list. The kid gets heavy frisking, extra screening, etc. The parents said when they go to check in the computer alerts to the name and the airline employee looks at the kid and roll their eyes.

Great list.

FBI director testified "FBI is notified" when watchlist individual attempts purchase

Here's the origin of the FBI claim:
FBI Director James Comey said:
There are a variety of things that we do when we are notified that someone on our known or suspected terrorist database is attempting to buy a firearm. The FBI is alerted when that is triggered, and then we do investigation, understand, are there disqualifiers that we’re aware of that could stop the transactions, and if the transaction goes through, the agents who are assigned to that case, to that subject are alerted to it so they can investigate,
