Is it a matter of getting older??

ok - USGI means (to me) US Govt Issue.

Those would be after market, right ? Based on USGI dimensions.

Nickle's stock looks USGI to me. it looks identical to the synthetic stocks on the M14s we had in the submarine's small arms locker back in the 70s. I believe Fred's stocks are all USGI, as well.

USGI, as in United States Government Issue. Not aftermarket.

Yes, Ray, Fred's stocks are real USGI, as is mine. The pic wasn't my actual gun, but mine looks close, with a similar stock. The stock on mine when I got it was that color. The stock I got from Fred's was a little bit darker.

That's a new one on me. I never saw or heard of synth USGI stocks for M14's. Must have come along after I left but I thought M14's were pretty much out of major service by then.

Just goes to show you, you're never too old to learn new stuff.
