Just wondering, do people think a 1911 in 9mm is a freak of nature? A crime against humanity? A fine idea?

it's your choice as to what you like. it's your 2nd ammendment right to exercise any way that you want.

I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread... I love 9MM... I love the 1911... I just wish they were cheap, reliable, and available.

The only 1911 I saw in 9mm was a jamomatic funhouse, but I'm sure thats
hardly indicative of the class.

Given two 1911s, one chambered in .45 ACP, and one in 9mm, saying therye
both single stack... I'd rather have the .45 ACP version. In that "form
factor" a 9mm is an abomination, imho, unless you're building like a specialty
plate gun or something. If it's a range toy a 1911 should almost always
be a .45 . :)

Maybe it's because I'm a woman but 1911s just don't do it for me. And I love 9mm. So I'd say just get yourself a sexy 9mm and forget the 1911 part...

The PPC shooters do use the 9mm 1911s, so do the Bianchi Cup/NRA Action pistol guys. I don't understand why SW made the their PPC gun in the 6" PC 952. I would imagine a 1911 would have been a better seller.

I also agree with SiameseRat, I love my CZ 75. It is actually right next to me ready to go to the range after work. They have their issues with extraction and broken slide stops though.

When one considers that John Moses Browning (Peace and Blessings be Upon Him) originally designed the pistol that was to become the 1911 around a cartridge that was dimensionally similar to the .38 Super (i.e., 9mm) and only went to .45 in order to satisfy the government's RFP, and that he later developed what he considered to be an improvement on the 1911 in 9mm Parabellum (the P35 or "Hi-Power"), who the hell am I to say that it would be an abomination. Sure the additional power of the .45ACP is nice to have, and the trigger on the P35 is next to impossible to tune and I'd prefer a larger safety lever. OTOH, the P35 fits my hand better than a 1911, and I do like the extra capacity.

Bottom line, while we might all have our preferences, anybody who says something that Browning (PBUH) designed is "an abomination" is a blasphemer, fully deserving to be stoned (if they aren't already). [wink]

I would have answered this differently last year, but the way reloading components have been skyrocketing I'm starting to think the 9mm in a 1911 format is the perfect plate/plinking setup for everything but Limited class USPSA competition. I'm working on one now because I just don't want to keep paying those incredible prices for 45 cal bullets. I figure I'll save enough money buying 9mm bullets that the gun will have paid for itself in about 10 years. And that's a lot of shooting!

SR, Hello, thats a picture of a .40S&W!!! I think everyone got the idea, though. BTW the CZ is right up there with the Beretta as far as good looking pistols.

D'oh! I just pulled the first CZ75 pic I came across and didn't read the fine print. [laugh] That'll teach me! (ps- mine's in 9mm, but I should have known better than to just pull a pic without really looking at it...)

Yup, this is a tough crowd!! [rolleyes] [laugh2]

They don't let you get away with anything.

Not to derail the thread but when are CZ pistols going to become MA compliant? I heard years ago they were working on it.

Star model B (9mm). I got it for $100, its 60+ years old, Only put about $20 in parts into it.

I can hit anything with it. The most accurate handgun I have.

I don't think you'll see any new mfrs added to the EOPS List . . . not unless the mfr KNOWS that they have someone gun-friendly in the AG's seat!! Waste of their money to do the submittal only to get shot down by the AG!

So don't count on anything changing anytime in the next 6 years or so! [Frisoli's "invisibility" to even the pro-gun crowds guarantees Coakley's new job. Sorry, not what I want, just a dose of cold, hard reality. Between now and the election, there is only 1 gun club meeting for most clubs! Too little, too late.]

Never Happen. (unless coakley gets hit with bird flu or something in the
next few weeks, yes, I know im a cold bastard).

The only possibility of us seeing anything from CZ is if somehow one of them
magically makes that new list of guns, (eg the "Target" list) but I'm not
holding my breath on that either.

If CZ is not on the list, it is because it made no effort to GET on the list. As shown by all the other guns on the AFR, the AG is an all-powerful obstacle as some here would have us believe.

Taking a look at all the guns that are on the AFR highlights why some gun manufacturers are unwilling to make the effort to get on the list. The fact that a manufacturer has gone to the trouble and expense to have guns tested and certified as meeting the standards specified in MGL doesn't mean that they'll ever be able to sell a single gun here. While the AG is far from "all powerful", he or she can still pose a major obstacle. Simply by claiming that a particular gun doesn't meet the requirements of 940 CMR 16.00, the AG can impose legal costs on any dealer wanting to sell a gun on the approved roster that far exceed any profits that could possibly be realized. (New Glocks, for example.) Knowing this, and knowing that both the current AG and his anointed successor would do anything in their power to make life miserable for law-abiding gun owners and dealers, the ony real surprise is that anybody bothers to get their guns on the approved list.
