Can they get them?
My iPhone is acting screwy.
It won't turn on all the way.
It keeps trying and failing.
The little white apple even turned half red and half black!
I'll bring it to the repair shop, but he could tell me it needs a new kidney, and I couldn't dispute him.
Any thoughts?

Picture of the red/black logo? I've never heard of that, would be very curious to see if it's a screen issue or the logo itself was hacked.

Wasn't there something about a text message based malware/virus thing with special characters? It could have tried to update and that failed and left it in a mucked up state.
Hard reset/power off is always the first thing to try.

A barcode? I have never seen the iPhone display a barcode on startup.

If you hold the home button and power button for a long time a white Apple appears. Then it goes thru startup.

I tried the hard start. A barcode appeared briefly.
Then before it actually started, it shut down.

If you have a backup try to induce a wipe of the thing. I'm guessing its a 4 or a 5, probably getting close to time to send it out to pasture.

The thing Gomer Pile posted is how I would fix it if it was at my shop. I'd restore it through itunes, then after its up and running again I'd hard reset it through the settings (settings, general, reset, erase all content and settings), then during the activation process I'd select the "restore from icloud backup" option, sign I'm with your apple ID and pray for the best.
