Sorry to hear about Chief Callahan's health, but possibly some interesting news for you Weymouth folks.
WEYMOUTH —
The temporary chief of the Weymouth Police Department has left the job after the mayor’s office received word from his doctor that he cannot work.
Brian Callahan, a 35-year veteran of the department, left the position today, Mayor Sue Kay said.
Kay said she received a note from Callahan’s doctor, advising that Callahan stop working immediately.
Callahan had filed for retirement earlier this year. Kay said the doctor’s letter was unexpected.
“He was visibly upset,” Kay said of Callahan’s reaction to the letter.
Kay could not specify what the doctor’s note said, citing medical privacy.
Kay said she will meet with the department’s superior officers Thursday morning to discuss who will head the department while a permanent chief is found.
