Interesting gun ownership by state!

It looks like this data is 10 years old.

In 2001 the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) in North Carolina surveyed 201,881 respondents nationwide, asking them, "Are any firearms now kept in or around your home? Include those kept in a garage, outdoor storage area, car, truck, or other motor vehicle." Here are the results.

There was a recent post talking about more up-to-date numbers, though I don't think Gallup broke it out by state: http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/144021-Good-news-Gallup-gun-poll

I Understand the survey is ten years old but I had never seen another, younger or older, that even come close to showing gun ownership by state. What is interesting is that Mass. comes in at such a small percentage. That partially answers why gun owners in Mass. are so ineffective with their attempts to make positive changes. They are seriously out numbered!

Yeah, but we have 3 more guns than NJ![thinking]

Surveys mean shit.

I can do a survey of 500 people at a gun club and NES shoot and get a 100% gun ownership.

And if its optional to call and say you have guns its just as bad.

Survey taker(on phones): Sir, do you own firearms?

Me: none of your business, take me off your list of people who need a no-knock warrant and dead dogs!

*end phonecall*

I dunno. The numbers make sense and are exactly what I expected. Rediculously restrictive gun control laws reduce ownership. All the highly restrictive states (MA, CT, RI, NJ, etc) have ownership in the teens. ME, VT, NH were in the 30%-40% range.
Nothing to see here.

Hello? ... Do I have guns? Ya, a bunch of nice ones. Uh huh.. I see. ... Yes, I do watch TV also. .... What kind? Um, I just got a new 55" LED Tv last week. Yes, everyone in the house works 9-5. Oh that's great.. sure my address is...

That survey is crap. Ooooh, sample size of 3897 people for a state the size of California! (which has like 30 million+ population in it, IIRC) I'm sure that's representative! [rolleyes]

I agree with bob...don't look at the absolute percentages, but the relative percentages state-to-state, and figure that the error due to untruthfulness is spread-out about equally. Not too surprising. It shows yet again that lib states and cities (DC) with the most crime also have the lowest relative ownership.

According to theory you only need 20-30 random people. but the survey is still crap.

low numbers for mass: it could just be that gun owners here slam the phone down after hearing "would you like to participate in a surv...."

Look at it this way. The states with low ownership % have rediculous gun laws. They have those laws because the states have a high population of libtards, and most libtards don't own guns.

cockpitbob makes a good point, but one that could easily be a case of too few gun owners to scream and make noises at legislatures who try to take away our Constitutional rights. It would seem to me that when I lived in Western Mass there were a lot of gun owners but the wimps in Eastern Mass controlled the actions of Beacon Hill. If it only takes a 30% improvement in gun ownership to make positive changes in gun laws then the gun owners of Mass need to get busy and interest that many others to become gun owners. Oh, I forget Mass is a nanny state!

I own no guns or ammo. Guns are bad M'kay. Oh sure I had guns years ago but the Obama admin. convinced me to destroy them all.

I doubt it. People on NES regularly admit to denial of fire arm ownership when they are asked.

Guns are shameful, after all.

Yup. I'm in the "Guns are icky" camp as well.

Who the hell is gonna tell some stranger on the phone that they own guns? What's the follow-up question? "What hours are you at work and is your house empty?"
