So, my mil sure days are gone for the moment but I still would like to have some interesting pieces of history, perhaps to even be able to display.

I can across an interesting 7.7 rimmed Japanese nave round from 1942 an a 1907 30-40 Krag round recently and I thought it might be fun to start a mil-surp ammo collection.

The idea would be, maybe build unique collection centered around specific interests (I.e US military cartridges from 1900 to present, or WW2 service rifle cartridges of the axis powers ).

I don't know, just a thought that might be fun and I'd be able to do some fun research and setup for relatively short money.... As it is, I've already learned the Japanese had a rimmed cartridge identical to the Brits .303

Thoughts, ideas, or that's just dumb are perfectly welcome.... I'm missing my mil surfs this Memorial Day as I usually took them out shooting

My friends dad has his dad's collection of WWII stuff. Many different types of 9 and 380 variants
Largo,Kurtz by memory along with several boxes of various mauser rifle cartridges. Not sure if they are all issued but where picked up while he was there.

If I'm not mistaken, the rimmed 7.7 Jap is for their machine gun. I know where you can buy crates of this on strippers, 30 rounders, I believe.

I've got a .30-03 cartridge, but unfortunately, it has a crack in the neck.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Ok, ok, I'm not saying the two piece I found were interesting or rare they just got me thinking....

Might be a fun project to research and find some original rounds from specific categories in military history. I guess the question is, which area to start

Yes, rimmed 7.7 is a direct copy of the British .303 used by the Japanese navy in their machine guns.

Good luck finding a Burnside cartridge:

I'm not going to ask why you had to give up all your milsurps, but my condolences. I'd be pretty sad if I had to get rid of all the guns in my bound book. [sad2]

Here's my little stash. Not shown are ~175 rounds of loose rounds of steel cased 8mm ~1940. The 5-round stripper in front of the Winchester box is the Sturmgewehr 44.

Nice collection Majspud.
would love to collect the variants of patrone.
Like fishing lures the boxes are (to me) part of the collection.
Just wish i knew where to start.

Believe it or not, I found most of it in a local antique store that was closing. I hesitated, and when I came back the next day 1/2 was gone.

I know where there is an original box of Frankfort .30/40 Krag.
cool stuff......I know where there are some with shot, paper bullets...yes paper.... and wooden bullets......some weird stuff for sure.

I've actually been helping a friend who owns a gun store sell it off.

I hate it as I always want to take something home
I try to stay just an old rimfire junkie
