I received this email today, the subject line being “Incident Today”.

    Dear Families,

I hope this email finds you well. I want to make families aware of a situation that took place today.

Today at grade 2 recess, a raccoon was seen at the edge of the woods. Students quickly alerted an adult and we moved the students to the hardtop near the playground. As I searched the area, the raccoon appeared again and we quickly performed a "reverse evacuation" to bring students inside for recess. We notified Animal Control and I followed the raccoon as it walked through the staff parking lot, down Jason's Path and into the woods across Washington Street. As a precaution, grade 4 had indoor recess as Animal Control patrolled the area where the raccoon was last seen. We then returned to our normal outdoor recess schedule.

The grade 2 students and the adults at recess handled the situation very well.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

    Brendan

I mean, thank God the adults handled the situation very well. I saw the subject line and really thought something happened.

Thank you Brendan for risking your life to keep the student safe. Maybe President Trump will invite you to the white house.

I'm glad the raccoon survived the incident unharmed.
Just trying to get some learning I'm sure.

Blame the overprotective helicopter parents, too. There is so much CYA that goes on because of whiny bitch parents it’s sad. Little Johnny comes home and reports to Mom and Dad, “there was a raccoon at recess today.” Mom and Dad ask what was done about this scary raccoon. “Nothing, they just let it walk by us!”

“OH MY GOODNESS, YOU COULD HAVE THE RABIES!”

Next thing you know principal is answering to 6 sets of parents.

Probably best not to reply right away. I would have had to delete 4 or 5 drafts... Way to go Brendan. Instill an irrational fear of harmless animals on the entire second grade class. I hope you enjoyed your stroll through the neighborhood, asshat.

Yeah I deleted a bunch before finally sending. Just an overwhelmingly stupid bit of sensationalism. I have to spend so much of our time during our weekends at my place in NH just trying to show my daughter a different side of life.

Just seeing this, any time you see a raccoon in the daylight hours, something is wrong with it. Rabies, a bunch more possible.
The staff did the correct thing, animals can be very messed up and potentially harm any one within range.

Witnessed and called Walpole, for a coon flopping around by Cumberland farms by Washington and Common st at around 7 am. , years ago. its eyes were white/gray and in and out of awareness. It would climb a tree and fall out of said tree, shaking at times. The coon was rabid. The cop did shoot it , but took way too long to decide on the shoot, close to an hour. What was interesting is the amount of clueless people driving by this situation, not even noticing as thing.

Again , this stuff is out there, the staff did the right thing. And just to flip this around, what if everyone ignored it and some one was bit, and has to get rabies shots, how many lawsuits to deal with, firing folks, re hiring , what a banana show that would be.

This is one of the many reasons that there is a paid and employed Animal Control Officer in any town.

That is a myth and a common misconception. Yes, raccoons are mostly nocturnal, but will also move around in daylight hours.

I’m not saying they actually did anything wrong. It’s the crazy sensationalism of it all that is the issue. Jazz dancing mixed with a #resist bumper sticker.

Understood, should re phrase that, how about a strong chance of something wrong with it if seen in daytime, all depending on when and where and doing what actions. Still worth a check/see.

Send a letter back saying you don't appreciate his destruction of wildlife and you are going to notify PETA about his harassment of animals.
