A Northern Pike. I’ve caught hundreds in the Thousand Islands. A great fighting fish. She pulled that guy up easily to my surprise.

My guess is it sat on the line for a loooooong time and petered out.

If the fish swallowed the whole rig, it might have felt its insides pulling out when it resisted.

A pike won’t care much. I’ve had many when I was younger swallow smaller rattle traps whole and still fight to the death literally. I haven’t lost more than a handful in my life of those alpha predators.
