No one in their right mind would ever retire TO New Jersey.

Exactly, I'm so glad I went in the right direction: fron New Jersey to New Hampshire.

Where's Montana? I thought VT might get an F. I wonder
why it didn't? Didn't want to insult the liberal Washington
delegation from VT? That's gotta be it.

I wonder what it would take to get an 'A'? [rolleyes] No problem giving out 'F's though.

EDIT: I didn't know an F+ was possible!!

I guess I forgot Montana

I'm pretty sure it was an F.

The more I look at this list a few things come to me.

Notice that no state got an A. If anyone got an A from these creatures it would exempt them from future intimidations they haven't thought of yet.

Also, with the exception of California and Hawaii, the gun control debate in this country is pretty much dictated by a handful of small states on the northeast coast of the US. Kind of like the electoral college.

Looks like I will be moving to one of the following...

Kentucky F
Alabama F
Mississippi F
New Mexico F
Louisiana F
Wyoming F
Alaska F+
Idaho F+
Florida F+

Montana is a solid F.

louisiana is the state the confiscated the guns after Katrina. Hopefully the bill will pass to stop illegal confiscation.

Laws don't stop such actions, they only provide remedies to go after those who perpetuate such illegal acts.

I would think that a best places to retire list would be based criteria important for retirees say like: cost of living, healthcare, taxes, airport access, real estate market, climate, etc.

Naaaaa That's only PART of it. If you are a senior citizen, you are natural prey for those who will do you harm. The ability to arm/protect yourself would be most important. NONE of those other things matter if you are dead!

For me in order,

High Speed Internet Access, female to male ratio, crime rate, Republican to Democrat ratio, ocean access, hunting / fishing laws

Curious as to why?
I spent a summer in Wise County, VA, right across the border from Kentucky.

1) Way too hot and muggy in the summer. 2) I don't like the culture. 3) Too far from the ocean and no mountains to make up for that fact. But for me the big thing is the culture.

Thanks for the info.

Just wondering, what about the culture was it that didn't fair well with you?
Not exactly what you might call cosmopolitan or well-educated. Lots of folks who had never left the county. Going to the county seat -- Wise, VA, population 3,000 -- was a big deal. Coal trucks and strip mines. Trailers. Washing machines and old cars in the front yard. Chewing tobacco. "Intelligent design".

I'm a foodie. I like being able to go to Wellesley and stop in to the Cheese Shop, where I can choose from 100+ cheeses, many of them from small, artisanal cheese makers. Or John Dewars', an incredible butcher. Or get fresh Striped Bass from Captain Marden's. I periodically make a pilgramage to Karl's Sausage Kitchen in Saugus to get their "made on the premises" brautwurst, liverwurst, knockwurst, andouille sausage, etc.

Don't get me wrong, there are lots of nice folks there, but I just don't fit in.
