Nice looking rifle. Mis-matched; '44 SA serial #, Winchester barrel (1968), good stock. Needs a cleaning. Since I know squat about M1's I thought that after a good cleaning I'd see if someone who does know them will look it over for me.
Then... I need to find a job so I can afford some ammo. [frown]

So,you bought a gun even though you are unemployed ?

Sounds like a solid life plan to me.

Yes, solid life plan. Especially since I didn't pay anything for it. Or more precisely I paid for it about 12 years ago when I gave it to my dad as a gift. I picked it up at a shop he had it shipped to.

But thanks for your opinion on spending.

It looks to be in great shape from the pics. I would strongly suggest you go through this web page. http://www.civilianmarksmanship.com/

In that page there is detailed instructions on how to clean up your Garand. This include the process to detail strip it down. I can't stress this enough. If you detail strip your Garand, pay very close attention on how the feeding mechanism is put together. A number of moving pieces there. Don't ask how I know this. [rolleyes]

If you want we can head to the range with mine and yours and see how well yours functions.

Thanks, I will take you up on the offer; when I can invest in some ammo.
