Today I went to the CMP clinic type shoot @ hanson rod and gun. More or less a non competitive military firearms shoot.
Course of fire is 20 rounds prone, 10 rounds prone rapid fire, 10 rounds sitting/kneeling rapid, 10 rounds standing 100 yards with the reduced targets SR1s,SR21,SR31

my stag 16" carbine with cheap detachable A2 style rear sight
Ammo 55grain FMJ(PPU bullet)
powder was Varget 25 grains. I have settled in on 25gn it has given me the best groups off the bench and the most consistent FPS with a 20 shot average of 2836FPS , i'm really liking this powder shoots really well in my Garand and 1903A3 also.
Case LC assorted years
primers Wolf small rifle

Today I achieved a goal that I set out to do. No Flyers out side the scorerings. I have already achieved this with my reload for my garand.
I also beat my usual standing score of < than 50 by 28 points!

Up until I started reloading my scores where so so and always had several flyers with the surplus ammo.
Prone slow fire 143, not my best score but I cant see my holes with the POS spotting scope I had. I nailed a nice 3.5" group with the ist 10 shots but they where in the 7(6)and 8 ring(4). Then my glasses started to fog up and I started shooting a bit low and tossed in a few 6s&5s BUT all 20 rounds scored ! my goal.
prone rapid 82 better than my low 70s
sitting 85, This is my most uncomfortable posistion but my scores seem consistant
Standing 78 im horrible at this. I dont practice standing much and I make myself dizzy watching the front sight go round and round and round.
All in all I have put 5 to 6 times more commercial and surplus down range than my reloads and shooting better !
My current 5.56 loads run my .13 ea

I can't squeeze more than 25g of Varget into 5.56mm cases. It seems to be the magic number as this is best accuracy in my AR.

Sent from the Hyundai of the droids, the Samsung Replenish, using Tapatalk.

If you use a long drop tube, or tap the cases to settle the powder, you can squeeze more Varget in there.
My best 55 grain load with Varget is more than 2 grains higher than what you're using (LC brass). Makes a nice "crunch" when you seat the bullet... [grin]

Edit: I switched to Benchmark for my 55 grain loads because is meters better, and my groups are the same as with the Varget..
